i havent written in ages.
i was just to consumed with ongoing stuff that i didnt have the time to sit down, reflect, and write. well, i still dont have thgat (i hope that ll change in august, for a couple of weeks) but, been studying for statistics exam tomorrow all day long. also, i have to prepare 2 presentations by tomorrow, do lots of bureaucracy bullshit, find a new flatmate, gett my stuff organzied, AND, here comes the big news:
organize my first exhibition(s).
YES. i have been photographing a lot lately with 2 friends, and we just sold 10 pictures (of gumdrops, "Gummibärchen") for 100 Euros a piece (and the guarantee that we will sell another 15 (different motives) as soon as they r done (next semester). so, the guy who bought them owns a shop (of, guess what? yes, gumdrops) and he will make a big thing out of it, inviting the press, and lots of people etc to make a real vernissage out of it.
the next 15 pix he wont be hanging but printing a calender with it, which woll be sold. we ll get even more money for these, or even a percentage. sooo, that has been a shitload of work, and normally not my preferred style of photography, but it earns us money to buy equipment and pursue other ongoing photography-projects. we already have another exhibition coming up next semester at the universities biggest cafeteria.
funny thing about that: in the cafeteria are already hanging 25 pictures, 5 of which are ours (well, PR-department of the university paid for the prints). i called them and asked them when they were supposed to be taken down again because we wanted the prints (good digitally printed A2-prints are damn expensive), and they said "when the next exhibition comes up". (those pix have been hanging for 4 months or so) so i just called the boss of the cafeteria whether they d be interested in a new exhibition. he was, so so far the deal is that we have 3 months time to privode pictures, they pay for the prints, the vernissage, the publicity, and we keep the full "Urheberrecht" (which is not the same thing as the copyright, legally, the term copyright doesnt exist in germany).
sooo, we have to create a website (with a cool, easy-to-remember name/domain, any good suggestions, anyone?), and we have to find someone who can do that for us since we all only know basic html and a lot of photoshop, but not much else.
and clear all the bureaucratic problems (with earning money, with sales tax, probaly having to join a "Berufsgenossenschaft" whoch doesnt help us anything but costs a shitload of money, maybe find an agency (to sell our other pics as well).
2 more ongoing projects: one is to talk the universities clinic into letting us use their digital x-ray to make some test pix, and then spend a week or so at natalies (on of the 2 other photographers, max is the 2nd one) parents place couse her father is a dentist and has an analog x-ray, and then take weird x-ray fotos there.
the other is still to undefined to talk about.
here s a preview, some more are in my scrapbook, and the others will be uploaded once i have had the time to spend a day with photoshop
and if all this keeps developing as i hope, maybe, i might stop studying my current subjects (sociology, politics, media) and leave germany (yes), go back to my most favorite town in europe (brussels) and study photography for real. cuz we re all just amateurs who ve had some luck so far. (max studies biology, and natalie dentistry, or whatever its called)
ow, and by the way, yes, during all of this, i have to organize my stay in the US, i m leaving 2 days after my birthday, and i still havent read the scripts of the plays i ll be doing.
