Let me preface by saying that successful shopping days for me are as rare as a rare thing, because I hate shopping and have no patience for it. But today I went to the mall because I needed to get a few things for Toronto. I especially needed to get something nice but casual to wear Friday night to the concert/cocktail party/dinner with James. And to my surprise, the very first thing I tried on worked. I found a new pair of jeans and a light floaty blue pattern top to go with them. I thought it looked nice on me even though I've gained so damned much weight over the past couple of years that I feel really ugly. Anyway, so I found that and then I found a pair of really cute wedge sandals that were OMG!comfortable. Yay! I hate shoes; my feet always hurt and finding something cute and funky to wear that don't look like they're going to hurt my feet was an amazing accomplishment.
After that I went to Walmart to get a few sundry items like toothpaste and soap, and happened to find a pair of jean capri pants that fit too! Score!
So with what I already have in my closet and my new purchases, I'll be okay for next weekend. I didn't want to buy too many new clothes because I'm hoping that when I get back from Toronto I'll be finally ready to start my diet and exercise program that my doctor has been nagging me about for months. I know once I get started I'll be okay. It's the getting started part that's hard.
In addition to the shopping I also got my hair cut and highlighted today. I had her cut it short and layered so that I can use my hair goop and make it kind of spiky and funky. Comfortable and funky are going to be my themes next weekend.
The only thing I ended up not buying that I was thinking of getting was a new digital camera. I really would like one, but I'm just not prepared to put that kind of money into something I'll seldom use. I think maybe I'll ask my brother if I can borrow his. I hate asking to borrow anything, but he's got a really nice one. I'll give it some more thought. I might end up running back to the mall and buying a camera anyway. We'll just have to see.
And since everyone else seems to be doing it... Happy Birthday, James. You are exactly one day younger than my oldest nephew.
God, does that make me feel old. :)
