I heard on ESPN radio this morning that some Irish magazine photomaniped Tiger Woods's wife's head onto a nude body and then claimed that she was involved with web porn sites. They claim it was satire; Tiger claims in was slander. Guess who's going to win that lawsuit. *g*

I ran into something similar in the TAR forums after its premiere. I was shocked by how many people claimed that -- even before the show aired -- the Muslim team were their "favorites". Based on what? Their picture? That was before the show even aired. It just surprised me that with all the complaints about stereotypes, so many posters were pretty much saying they had picked their "favorites" based on a photo and a bio (I was also rather surprised by the virulent dislike placed on attractive female blondes based on nothing but appearances).

Don't get me wrong, not saying that the Muslim team couldn't be a favorit. And not saying that the Muslims didn't seem like reasonably nice guys in the premiere, but when you're picking out 'your favorites' based on a photo and a bio, you're sort of playing into the reason why shows cast stereotypes. People are picking favorites based on nothing else.

I at least like to see the racers race for a while before deciding who I like and who I don't. I need more than a photo and a bio. (Honestly, I haven't picked any TAR favorites yet. The only pair that annoyed me were the bickering dating couple. I could have lived without them.)

Yeah, it drives me crazy. I'm a moderate conservative, and I think I have a lot less trouble looking at people of all races as, well, people than a lot of liberals do, because I'm not trying to make sure that I don't see them as other races or ethnic groups. Because, you see, I mostly see them as, well, people. **shakes head**

Yeah. Exactly. I mean I love LOST's Sayid. But I love Sayid because he's an interesting character with strengths and flaws. I like Sayid because he's human, not simply because I want to pat myself on the back for accepting an Iraqi Muslim character.
