So, The Tower. I really liked this episode, but I don't think I'm in love with it, not like I am with Epiphany, Critical Mass and Grace Under Pressure. Sheppard and the gang are on an agrarian medieval-type planet and Sheppard gets taken not!prisoner (close to prisoner, but not really...or something) obviously because he has the ATA gene. Since Rodney was off exploring with a helpful peasant, his gene was not detected, and he was not taken not!prisioner. There's a duplicate Atlantis there, most of which is underground. The tower is the main spire and sticks up out of the ground. Rodney determines when scanning the city that the city's ZPM is almost out of power. It does have drones though, and out-of-power jumpers. There's also a weapons' chair, which the ruler - the Lord Protector - uses, not to fight off the Wraith, since the Wraith haven't stopped by for many generations, but to keep the peasants under control.
It's very fairytale-like with the LP's horny daughter coming on to Sheppard - once again we don't know if he went for it or not, although it really looked like Little John stood up to attention when she dropped her grown and stood there nekkid. (JF's best line in the ep..."I never see these things coming.") The writers really need to get over this Captain Kirk Sheppard kick they're on, because it's really interferring with my McShep fantasy. *g* However, once again, I choose to believe that he didn't actually go for it when he tells Elizabeth at the end of the episode that he could have gotten the girl, but he turned it down. I choose to take that to mean that after the fade-out when she pushed him on the bed, that he jumped up and ran across the room and told her that his boyfriend would really get pissed at him if he shtupped her. ;)
Teyla rather irritated me this episode. More and more they have her seeming to be a bit holier-than-thou. She lectures McKay that they should be honored because the peasants share their meager meal with them. She's completely oblivious to the fact that McKay finds the entire society distasteful - his Canadian (or perhaps I should say North American) viewpoint of equality is completely offended by this feudal society, but, of course, since he doesn't break down into bitter tears, Teyla assumes that he's rude and ungrateful for the meal they just ate. And when he tells her that he is honored, but that they should be the ones sharing their food since they have more in their emergency rations (something they've added to the packs since John's trip to Planet Boring?), she tells him with great authority that the peasants are too proud to accept the Atlanteans' food. How the fuck does she know? If they told the peasants that it was their tradition to share their food with their new friends, I'm sure the peasants would have loved to actually have a filling meal for a change. She's starting to remind me of Daniel at his most preachy - and I don't love her they way I love Daniel, so she doesn't get a pass from me.
But enough about Teyla, let's talk about Ronon. OMG! They really need to do a Ronon heavy episode, one where he flexes his muscles and kicks ass, because he's so fucking hot when he picks up heavy things with barely a movement of his biceps and then takes on a bunch of armed men and kicks their collective asses. I want to see an episode where Ronon and Rodney are stuck somewhere together and Ronon is the caveman and Rodney is the astronaut and at first they really get on each other's nerves, but then they begin to work together and by the end of the episode they're BFFs and then they return to Atlantis all laughing and chummy and John gives Rodney the stink eye and they have a big fight and then have lots of makeup sex. Man, I'd pay to see that episode.
Rodney was in short sleeves in this episode. :D He was snarky and beautiful and smart and I loves him so much.
So, now Atlantis has more puddle jumpers (and thank god for that since they were losing them at an alarming rate) and a supply of drones, so that's good. They really need to find another of the ZPMs from that list Old!Elizabeth gave them though. Maybe that can be the plot for the Ronon and Rodney episode. :)
