Recently I keep finding myself reluctantly debating with a few buddies the "drama" of a whm main winning lot on dalmatica over a blm main. When the abjuration dropped, there weren't any rdm mains present so whm and blm are on equal priority for the next lot, and a whm won. Fair enough, right? Well, the blm also has brd and rdm 75, while the whm has smn 75. So, my friends were unhappy that the blm lost lot since rdm and brd "could get more use out of it." To which I say "Yes, but not enough for me to try to make the whm feel bad about it"

The most common argument is the refresh. Well, what about a vermillion cloak? Well, you can use a helm with Dalm. Ok, what about using macros to cast with? Well, it has more MP. How often are you at max mp and waiting on convert as rdm and thought "If ONLY I had a dalm instead of this crappy vermy?" How often are you at max mp on brd, assuming you have mage sub? Wouldn't the extra mp help smns or whms too? This is about how far I get.
If a player really cared about having refresh, they could've invested in a vermilion and worked out appropriate gear swaps to best take advantage of the refresh, or if they really care about performance, they would be working on Salvage mage gear which has even better and job-appropriate stats. I'd make an exception for rdms with AF2 hat since you can stack the refresh, and as we know FF is all about STACKING. Otherwise, I think to a good player, it really makes minimal difference. In my opinion, Dalmatica is really more of a prestige piece showing you're involved with an LS and worked enough to camp a painful item.
The whole thing feels more like a popularity contest. The blm is a girl who flirts with a lot of guys, stays up late hours to chat with people, and leads Salvage runs outside of LS events, while the whm is a guy that attends events, logs after to go to bed, and pretty quiet in LS. I'm on the same terms with both of them, and I'd really rather the drops are distributed according to rules and be happy for the winner, instead of "but she would use it more!" type of guilt trips.
