So I have designated myself the official "Mikey's Trip Writer-Abouter" since I know that some people, ::cough:: such as my fiance, have a difficult time getting on the computer to update, much less to describe an entire day's transactions.
So this afternoon, as we were taking the dogs out for a routine walk, Robert received a text message that said that Mikey was having trouble on the plane. My heart sank, considering I knew that Robert was looking forward to this trip for a long time, and I was hoping that he was not going to be told he couldn't fly.
All and all ended up well. We left the house with plenty of time, or so we thought. A random accident on Loop 1604 and construction on highway 281 got us stressing out, but we made it to the airport with time to spare. I purchased a rare indulgence, a Cosmo, at a ridiculous price and settled down on the floor at the bottom of the stairs where the arriving flights are let out of the security gate, considering there were no chairs to spare. Halfway into an article about Carrie Underwood, where I realized that she too, has a maniacal obsession with Star Trek and and a crush on Patrick Stewart, I called Robert to find out that he was waiting with Michael to sign the papers for the unaccompanied minor. A few minutes later, they came down the stairs and we were off - with Mikey snapping random photos of a metal floor and the elevator. When Robert asked him why he was taking such pictures, Michael responded matter-of-factly, "Because I like metal!"
We left the airport, and soon were bombarded with questions from the back seat. Luckily, Robert's Explorer got the A-ok from the mechanic - or at least they said they can't find anything wrong with it. I asked Robert if they had called
liandriel from the airport, got a negative, so dialed up her number so he could talk to her. We stopped at the Hobby Lobby to pick up some neat arts and crafts, Wal-mart to pick up some groceries and Spiderman sandals and flipflops for Michael, and stopped at Cici's Pizza for dinner. Michael was really excited to be seeing our dogs and our apartment. He asked us if we had an elevator, and was a little disappointed when we said only stairs. But the funniest moment came when Robert said that our complex had three stories, and Michael asked, "Does that mean you need three books to get to the top?"
Since Hobby Lobby and Cici's are in the same square, we decided to walk to Cici's. Seeing Robert there, one hand in mine, the other in Mikey's, with the most peaceful look on his face, did my heart good. I gave his hand a squeeze and he smiled and said, "I'm with my two most favorite people in the entire world." Every single care and worry was gone from his face in that moment. It was good to see.
After Cici's, we came home, where Mikey was inundated with puppy kisses from our two dogs, Yuki and Bandit, who are the two most loving dogs anyone could ever have. Michael was uber-excited to play fetch with Bandit, (who is the only fetching dog), and declared that Bandit was the better of the two, though tonight he did ask if Yuki could sleep in his room with him. He absolutely loves the dogs. It is really good - because they love him too, and enjoy running around and playing with him. (They are both exhausted, and pooped out on the couch with Robert and I, who is playing Pokemon on his DS.)
He got to play his new Star Wars game Robert got for him on Robert's DS for a while, and then we read Mouse Soup (OMG for Lobel books that I haven't seen since I was a kid) got em ready for bed, and out he went.
Tomorrow is Father's Day, and I will be at my parents for most of the day, though I am sure the brownies I am baking for my dad in the morning will be met with questions from Mikey wondering where his share are. It will be good for Robert and Michael to be together on Father's Day. (As I helped Michael unpack his suitcase and backpack, I discovered a card and a 'Father's Day' school packet made by Mikey for Robert. Robert walked in to find Michael and I whispering mischieviously to each other and has been puzzled ever since. I hid them under his suitcase to await tomorrow morning.)
Tomorrow's agenda looks something like: Visiting April and Kip and the kids for a while to take over a piece of furniture for storage over there and to say hi, adventures in rock tumbling (Mikey was ecstatic to see the rock tumbler that Robert got him), and adventures in the Xmen video game that Michael remembers from the last visit. God knows if he asks me to play that game, I will fail miserably. I hope Robert is always around when he wants to play it, cause I will be NO HELP!
Monday: Perhaps the Alamo! where Mikey wants to go desperately. He proclaimed emphatically today that he "loooooooooooooves that place!"
Tuesday: Down to Corpus Christi, where the beach, Texas State Aquarium and U.S.S. Lexington are....
The rest of the week is still undetermined, though we want to go to Natural Bridge Caverns and Natural Bridge Wildlife Park (where animals like zebra and giraffes come right up to your car - kind of a zoo adaptation of Jurassic Park, except with herbivores! :) )
In other news, I have reserved the church for our wedding next year! It was a real bargain, and I am SUPER HAPPY ABOUT THAT! Now that's its just a year away, I'm starting to really look at dressed and stuff and realize how FAT I AM. I swear that since I've been together with Robert, I've gained like 15 pounds. He says I'm not fat, but the mirror tells it all!!! Ok, ok, so I just need to shed a few pounds, I'm not really that concerned about my appearance. But I've seen some beautiful wedding dressed and I want to look really good in them!!!
In other other news, my dad and mom are remodeling their house, so it is pretty much a disaster zone right now. That's why dessert for Father's Day is being made at my house, and we are going to have a cookout out on the deck and go swimming and have a grand ole time. I got him one of those charging valet stations for all his gizmos and gadgets. The man has way too many - I mean, seriously, the man has a pager, two cellphones, and a PDA just for work. Not to mention all his personal equipment. He is altogether too difficult to buy for.
In other other news, I got into contact with my bestest friend in the whole world, from middle school. She just got married and now we text and talk at least once a week. I am super excited about getting back into contact with her after almost eight years.
Anyhow, now it is 10:30 pm, but we are all ready for bed!
