cry if i want to, yeah cry if i want to... umm, so my little graduation party is going to be in 4 days (or so) which is this saturday... is it just me, or does it seem like this is the coldest, rainiest, crappiest may/june that weve had in a long time? i really hope that the weather is good on saturday, as we are having a good number of people over to the house, and we can only accomodate that many people if we hold the festivities in the backyard - they probably wouldnt be able to cram inside the house in case of bad weather
as we get closer to "my" party, the overall mood of the house is getting worse and worse... i mean, to begin with, it was their (my dad, my mom, liz...) to have a party for me, and they are mostly inviting family members that i dont even really know/talk to, and a moderate amount of liz's family as well... and liz is super stressing out about this and she is getting harder and harder to deal with =\ ill just be glad when this party is over and done with...
i still have no job, but i did get a haircut yesterday, if that counts for anything? christine and i both got our hair cut, but i dont think she was happy with hers so much, although mine is good so i guess i cant complain... i also have a pretty bad sunburn on my shoulders because i was out staining the deck (one of the many party-preparation chores that need to be done all in the final week before the party...) so thats no fun...
i think there was one other thing i was going to write about, but i cant really remember what it was...hmmm? umm, ill just tell you about this one cool game called mafia ;) im thinking about it, because (especially if it rains, but probably no matter what the weather is) at my graduation party there will be alot of people and we may play this little game:
ok, its called mafia, i think we already covered that, and you kind of use a deck of cards, but its not really a card game... basically, you pass the cards out (one card to everyone) and this card identifies what role they have in the game, and this is the last time you "use" the card - you only have to remember what role you are... the "narrator" doesnt get a card, and they are simply the narrator of the little game... (the narrator also pulls out only enough cards for how many people are playing so that you know what cards are in the deck, to make it easier to divide up the people playing into roles...) anyway, a certain number of players are a part of the mafia (generally about 1/4 of the total people playing will be in the mafia...), there is one (or two if you have a LOT of people playing) doctor, and one sheriff, and the rest of the people playing are just "villagers" or basically just regular players of the game with no special function...
anyway, once all the roles are determined, everyone in the "village" goes to sleep (closes their eyes), but suddenly - the mafia all wake up! ha ha... then, as quietly as possible so that the non-mafia members do not "accidentally" hear/feel someone moving or whatever, the mafia members must unanimously select one person (by all pointing at him/her) who they are going to "kill"... once one person has been unanimously selected by the mafia, the mafia members go back to "sleep"... then, the doctor wakes up... the doctor (or team of doctors if you have alot of people playing) must select (unanimously) one person who they think may have been the target of a mafia hit, and who they want to "save"... once the doctor has selected someone, s/he falls back asleep, and then finally, the sheriff wakes up... the sheriff then points to one person who they suspect may be in the mafia... the narrator will either nod their head yes, or no, indicating ONLY to the sheriff, whether or not that one person is in fact a member of the mafia or not... once the sheriff has that piece of information, the sheriff goes back to sleep
then, the whole village wakes up -- except the person who was just bumped off by the mafia... UNLESS the doctor correctly pointed to the one person who was actually killed, then the person was "saved" and no one was killed... then the villagers have to talk amongst themselves to determine who among them are in the mafia and who have just tried to kill an innocent villager... once two people say "i think it was so and so", then that person ("so and so") is "accused", and once a few different people are accused, each one of the accused gets to plead their case to the rest of the villagers as to why they should not vote for them... once all the accused have said their piece, everyone in the village is allowed to cast one vote for who they think is in the mafia, and the person with the most votes is "killed" by the villagers who are trying to rid their village of the mafia (remember, the mafia members are voting as well...)
after a person is "killed" by the villagers, that person is out of the game (along with the person who was killed by the mafia - if any), and the next round starts, which is played just like the first one... this process continues until there are either no mafia members left, or only mafia members left (once the mafia members have a majority, the game is pretty much over, because they could just all team up and vote off one person at a time)... also, a little piece of "strategy" or something, the sheriff (assuming they are not "killed" by either the mafia or the villagers) will learn the mafia-ness of one person every single round, so they are a pretty valuable person to listen to, but the only problem is you dont know who the sheriff is, so you dont know who to listen to... if someone says "i am the sheriff, and i know it is so and so", then you can go ahead and listen to them if you want, but theres a good chance that the mafia will try to kill that person as soon as they find out who it is, so saying you are the sheriff might be a death wish, but if there is another way you can kind of "convince" people that you should be listened to without making the mafia suspicious, then maybe that is better... ha ha
there are alot of other rule variations, but this is the way that i play the game (the only other "rule" that i can think of that i play with is that the doctor is only allowed to "save" themself one time per game... otherwise that person could save themselves every single time all game and would beat the mafia every time...) also, some people play where once a person is killed (either by the mafia or by the villagers) they DO NOT reveal their card to the rest of the players, therefore, you never know if your sheriff is still alive, or how many mafia members are left, and so on, and only the narrator knows what is going on until the game is over... but i prefer to give people all that information because it doesnt make the game less fun or anything, it just lets you know where you are in the game
whew, im done with explaining mafia =) seriously, that game is so so so fun, you have no idea how fun it is until you actually play it... i mean, when i first heard what it was, i was skeptical to say the least, and i almost didnt really even wanna play, but since i was with about 20 other people, ALL of which wanted to play, i didnt wanna be singled out by being the one person who didnt wanna play, and blah blah blah... but everyone loved the game, even those of us who had never played before... about a week later i introduced the game to a room of new people (about 13 of them or so) and seriously, EVERYONE loved the game... i dont know what it is, but the game sounds kinda dumb, but is incredibly fun =) so if you have a large group of people, im telling you, try this game ;)
ok, im done now, i swear...
