I just-LOVE-Jean Harlow SO MUCH. So much. It twists my stomach up and makes my eyes tear and my heart beat and I want to giggle with joy.
I rented Red Dust; I really don't like the movie that much, but HARLEAN! Harlean, you make my heart sing. She's just... so... guh. Darling. Adorable. Charming. Seriously, when all I'd seen was the ( Read more... )

Oh I'm in love with Jean, too! And Red Dust isn't one of my favourites, either, and I don't know how people get off saying it was racier than Red-Headed Woman because it isn't!!!

TCM is having a March 3rd tribute to Jeanie!! I'm tuning in because there are a few movies I haven't seen yet :))) I can't wait.

Are you serious?! I have to mark that on my calender.
I get kind of mad at TCM cause they don't show NEARLY enough of her movies. (all though it's true I haven't been watching it so much in the past month, so that may have changed.)
And I hate the new cult following she's got because Gwen Stefani is playing her in that movie; I know I should be glad she's getting more recognition, but it pisses me off.
Do you know what movies they're showing on the tribute day? I think I've seen all of her movies except Wife vs Secretary, which is weird, because I love Myrna Loy too, but the plot is kind of a turn off for me.
Guh! I'm so excited now.
And you're right about Red-Headed Woman. That plot was scandalous! Like Babyface, it's one of the ones I can't even see being made today. (but probably because NOW would picket it and say it was sexist.)

I HATE it when people put modern PC standards onto old movies! And Wife vs. Secretary is actually pretty good! Everyone thinks Jean Harlow is banging Clark Gable because she's so good-looking, but in reality he's deeply in love with his wife Myrna Loy. Yea, it's silly Production Code propaganda, but I still like it and think it's one of her best!

And here is the March 3rd Schedule. I don't know where you live, but these are the Eastern times:

3 Wednesday

6:00 AM The Beast Of The City (1932) A police captain leads the fight against a vicious gangland chief. Walter Huston, Jean Harlow, Wallace Ford. D: Charles Brabin. BW 86m. CC

7:30 AM Red Headed Woman (1932) An ambitious secretary tries to sleep her way into high society. Jean Harlow, Chester Morris, Una Merkel. D: Jack Conway. BW 80m. CC

9:00 AM Hold Your Man (1933) A hard-boiled babe and a con man wear down each other's rough edges. Jean Harlow, Clark Gable, Stuart Erwin. D: Sam Wood. BW 87m. CC

10:30 AM The Girl From Missouri (1934) A gold-digging chorus ( ... )

6:00 AM The Beast Of The City
Oh yay! One I haven't seen! After saying that I realised there were a bunch of early ones I haven't seen yet, including the Laurel and Hardy one where she ends up in her undergarments.
Gosh, this is so exciting. And I'm excited about The Blonde Bombshell, cause I've never seen that either. For some reason I really like bio-pics like that.

I HATE it when people put modern PC standards onto old movies!I've gotten really defensive about a lot of the old movies I love (like Red Dust) because some of my friends are just appalled by them (ex, the characterisation of Hoi/Hoy) which is tacky I guess, but, you know. It was the thirties. I'll agree that they weren't up to today's standards but for god's sake let me enjoy my movies ( ... )

Of course I have both David Stenn's and Eve Golden's Jean Harlow biographies! I got them both when they first came out.

The only Harlow movies I need to see are Beast Of The City, The Secret Six, Platinum Blonde, and Suzy.
