Today was the opening of Parliament in Scotland. (BTW - SO not interested in politics!)

So I spent the whole morning standing around waiting for pretty cars carrying the crown down the Royal Mile from Edinburgh Castle down to the Parliament House and then down to the Palace where it was dropped off and Queen Elizabeth I of Scotland was picked up and dropped off at Parliament House.

She opened Parliament then went out another entrance (I had previously spoken to a police officer who told me what was going on so I positioned myself pretty well in getting good views) where there was a parade and then she walked down the street back to the Palace.

It was nice. I haven't seen the Queen since she made a trip to Australia when I was very young. She obviously looked quite a big younger then.

Photo's obviously were hard to take. There were a lot of police around standing in just the wrong spot to ruin an otherwise good photo, and then there were also the random backs of heads and hands holding up cameras (which is strange when you take a photo through the viewfinder of another camera!) as you do in crowds at an event such as this. I did get a couple of short videos, but it's certainly times like this when I'm wishing I had something stronger than a x3 optical zoom! (one of the next things on my to upgrade list!)
