I started wearing glasses when I was four. Yep, FOUR.

And I had pretty shocking vision from day one. I get to blame my dad for this, his vision is pretty much exactly the same as mine-- the whole -10 with astigmatism same. This meant that my glasses always tended to be much more expensive than most glasses. (my last pair I bought about 5 years ( Read more... )

You seriously get used to it. I don't even notice that I'm only *seeing* out of one eye. I mean, it's not like I'm completely blind in the other so it still offers that (tiny) bit of depth perception, but its enough to get by. The only time I notice I only have one good eye is when I close it! And no, I can't wear a contact lens in that eye and couldn't even if I wanted to because it's been so badly damaged by overuse of lenses and needs to heal (if it ever does).

My vision is stable, but I just physically didn't have enough cornea to burn away to do lasik. That's why ICL was the only option available to me- it's a small contact lens that's stitched behind the iris, so they aren't actually permanently doing anything to your eye.

As it is now, I don't have 20/20 vision in my *good* eye, but it's better than what's required for driving, so I'm happy. So yes, I'm carrying on every day life with one (not quite) 20/20 and the other with a terrible astigmatism and -10 and living fine.

Admittedly, I have the concern that if anything happens to my *good* eye, I'm screwed! :S

I don't know what my glasses are, while I did bring them to Scotland with me (jic), I'd have to go digging in the bottom of my suitcase to find them.
