a bit more about that television thing

Strictly: I don't have anything much to say really, except that It's Raining Men is such the ultimate 'power of gay love!' song for me that I honestly kept being surprised that they hadn't filled the stage with shirtless male dancers to dance with Austin.

Also, I liked John's speech and thought Christina's was really sweet and moving, and I am really not sure Rachel's dance deserved a perfect score but don't care that much.

Supernatural: Before I get to actual Supernatural spoilers, anyone who has seen the episode needs to see this because AHAHAHA SUDDENLY THE TITANIC REFERENCE MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!

Otherwise, I actually mostly liked it! I liked that Anna was an angel (it makes up a bit for the amount of women who are EEEVIL, although a few human women who are not psychos would be nice) and the sex scene made me laugh a lot and also go 'hi, Jensen's back!' Which, okay, maybe wasn't the idea, heh, but I bought that they could bond in the way the show said, that they had stuff in common. I liked the set-up-for-plot stuff about how all she wanted was to be human and feel human emotions, and all Dean wants is to not feel anything. I liked the set-your-enemies-against-each-other thing too - it works with the 'grace is an actual thing and even angels aren't entirely sure God's up there' bit. They're de-theologising the whole thing, and I actually find that interesting and more... plausible? I guess? Something like that. That they're caught up in a fight between powers much greater than they are, neither of which is necessarily 100% good or bad and definitely can't be relied on to take humanity's wants into account, works for me a lot.

The big reveal was a bit eh (mostly because there wasn't a hug and also the 'sitting on the car' reveal has been done by the show before and I would like something else) but I think a lot depends on where they go with it from here - I think it could end up being interesting, but whether that'll happen I am not sure.

I did not like the torture-porn scene - I mean, on the one hand we're meant to sympathise with Ruby, but SERIOUSLY, that was very close to making me stop watching, and I LIKE the show. A minute more and it would have been a snuff film, and writers/producers/whoever: I know you want guys to watch, but snuff porn is not the goddamn way to do it. Not unless you want ONLY straight guys to watch it, and even then they'd be the kind of straight guys most people RUN AWAY from. Seriously!

I do love Dean and Sam and I'm even finding Castiel less creepy than I did. Uriel I still do not like, and probably won't until he gets some actual comeuppance for his being a SEETHING BAG OF HAAATE AND AAAANGER. I hope Anna comes back and KICKS his ass after the hiatus.

Merlin: Merlin makes me want to run around asking 'did that just happen? no REALLY, did that just happen or am I on drugs and I forgot?' I feel like somebody is tapping into my brain somehow and going, hmm, let's see if we can't add these things that make Katie VERY HAPPY'. This week on the list, as I just finished madly squeeing about in email:

- MORGANA AND GWEN!! And not even the fact they canonically shared a bed: the outfits and the swordfighting (morgana saying "bring back memories of when I used to beat you?" and Arthur's little "that never happened" and omg) and the LEADING AN UPRISING OF WOMEN WHO WANT TO KICK ASS were just so happymaking! And Gwen told off Arthur and was RIGHT and he LISTENED TO HER and good. god. somehow Merlin has ended up with some of the best politics on television. I LOVE it.

- the fact the main moral dilemma of the episode REALLY WAS 'can Merlin give up Arthur's love to save the village?' And although the cop-out of 'Merlin saves the village but without Arthur quite realising' was inevitable, I did like that it ended as an actual thing. Arthur's stressing and being annoyed at Merlin's supposed lying about his friend did make me think that he's sort of thinking there's something he should know, but doesn't want to be right and is therefore buying the current story because of it. And he's pissed off because he wants Merlin to TELL HIM EVERYTHING already, only Merlin ISN'T due to not wanting to be, y'know, DEAD. And I love that it's not just the society thing keeping them from being 100% honest, it's also worry that the other won't respond well and also Arthur being a bit of a prat in the way he brings it up and OH THE LOVE.

- also? CHAINMAIL and MANLY PATS and "It's been an honour" BOTH WAYS. DID YOU SEE THAT? MERLIN SAID IT FIRST AND THEN LATER ARTHUR SAID IT TOO AND I COULD NOT LOVE THAT MORE IF I TRIED.

- I also love Arthur's "you'll be coming back." thing too, cause oh, it was just... so definite. That was intent in that line. And also it came after the discovery that it was Arthur who got Merlin's mum an audience with Uther, and that made me happy too.

- omg, I almost forgot: "You've been a terrible servant. I mean it, worst I've ever had." Merlin grins like a fool. "Thankyou, sire." HEARTS HEARTS HEARTS HEARTS. and oh. my. god. did you people SEE the foot-shoving and the sharing a floor and being PAINFULLY ADORABLE?

- Merlin's mum: ships Arthur/Merlin, doesn't want her son's heart to be broken, but realises he's pretty much in it for the long haul at this stage. LOVE. And I think there might be more to find out about why she sent him to Camelot and not to her own ruler's court.

- Gaius: not in it a lot, but brought up Merlin being a total lightweight, which 1. hee and 2. dude, we need to see more of that (and him bonding drunkenly with Gwen and falling over into Arthur!)

- Arthur generally! Not only did he ride after them (the bit where he turns up is AWESOME!) but he was all KINGLY and speechified and listened to people and respected Merlin AND the women and brought the smackdown and oh yeah, that is why I love Arthur. as well as him being a prat occasionally. :D

- omg I nearly forgot this too: MORGANA TOTALLY SAW. SHE TOTALLY DID. And I LOVE it and want them to bond over being pale, dark-haired people with big mouths who can do magic. Come on, show, you can do it! And you can totally get Arthur remembering that oh yeah, MYSTERIOUS MAGIC saved his life MORE THAN ONCE, too. I have faith. :D :D

... okay, wow, it has been a while since I was that squee-y. I, um, may have a new pet fandom. (Not that I don't love you too, old fandoms! But the lure of new fabulousness is strong!)
