Today, I have mostly been in York. :)
This was cool, because I got to spend the day with
amaterasu, who rocks. We spent the entire time geeking out big time, which was fun (even if we did bore her poor boyfriend - who looks like a part-Greek Adrien Brody, by the way - to tears). Mmmm... geeking. Today's geeky conclusions include:
- Enterprise sucks.
- Comedy songs rock.
- Movies featuring hot guys as pirates, especially when they make Hitchhiker's Guide allusions, rock even more.
- OoP is a bludgeon, in ways both literal and metaphorical.
- I am more of a Stephen Fry geek than even I realised.
- Coffee is good. (Edited to add that this is despite the fact tea is immeasurably better. :))
There are two other good things about this as well, though, actually. The first is that I Love York, and this continued even though it was pouring down with rain. That's good, as if I end up there I shall almost certainly have to put up with the rain quite a lot. Although I've decided I now renounce my former position on being a Rain God a la Douglas Adams, because when I got back to Manchester it was relatively nice. Naturally, heh.
The second is that I got to read this cool book about the British working classes in the 1950s while sitting on the train. (And, to a lesser extent, on the bus on the way to the train.) It was most fascinating, because not only was it interesting stuff in its own right, but I kept wondering how much of it would make any sense whatsoever to a non-Brit. I also found I actually liked the way it was written - thank GOD for decently written academic stuff! whooHOOOOOO!! - and agreed with lots of it as still applying today. Hmm.
In other news, I'm sending out tea-and-biscuits-and-hugs thoughts to several of you. I hope life treats you better soon.
And now I shall sleep, because I am freaking knackered.
