Mao's POV
Bird. Bird. Bird.
High upon the sky. Hiding away. Spreading wings. Soaring on the wind. Chirping much like singing. The melody you carry as a trait of who you are. Sing louder, sing brighter. Fly high up in the sky. Trees are your safe place. Heavy rain troubles your flight. Strong wind carries you the wrong way. Sunshine spreading joy becomes just another thing for me to envy about you.
Your chest so bright and red. Your head a raven black veil. Coated with grey and white in between and among one or the other.
My chest is red too. Not bright like yours, but dark and deep like your veil. My coat is only pale and white, not magnificent like your feathery colors. While my veil is only dirty and blond. I dislike myself the most.
Another strike across my back and I break down once more. How many times can one break before it’s not possible to piece the pieces back together?
Fly. Fly. Fly.
I greedily envy you. So fly from my vision. You mocking bird who sings so bright that tears well up.
Disappear. Disappear. Disappear.
Among clouds of my dreams. Into freedom of my hopes. Fly away and let my soul become your veil and only then take me away from here.
Just a solitary bird locked up in a cage too small for me. Singing long, and singing deep, I cannot spread my wings, but singing is all I do for release.
