So I got paid today...a whole $59. Partly spent that on a kickass movie, called Nausiccaa of the Valley of the Wind. I had watched the movie years ago...my dad had been a huge Anime freak back in the 80's and he had taped it while we lived in Spain. Since I grew up with that movie, I hold it as a standard to be compared with, obviously. And even though the movie is standing up against the old version admirally, it does fall short in certain areas.
The way people talk is differant. In the older version, the way they talked fit the people's lifestyles. The people who live in the valley belong to a small isolated community. They live a simple, farming life. In the old version they talked in a more formal, more old fashioned talk. Instead of saying, "Let her be okay" they would say "May she be protected." The tone in the new version is as if they were suddenly plucked from present day...lol, or should I say the past. Since the setting is 1000 years after the last of industrialized society succumbs to nuclear war and holocaust. I dunno, the story still holds up. It's amazing. And at least it's in english. Since the version I had years ago was on VHS and was broken by wear and tear, the version I did have was in fucking Korean or Chinese and sucked a major amount of ass.
I'm glad I have the god that is Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. It rules. If you like high quality tasteful anime with a splash of feminism at every corner, you'll enjoy this.
Unless you have the attention span of a guinea....
...pig. :)
