The labs are unnaturally silent as Kabuto makes his rounds, and he carefully notes the occurrence in his log book before returning to his desk. There, he waits for his newest patient, quietly monitoring the computer screens that surround his desk. Hopefully there will be no disturbances today.

He made his way to the labs in a lethargic manner, not that he could help it. With calm onyx eyes scanning the scene around him as if to take notes on every crack in the wall, every hole to the side and so forth. Ukon could only sigh at the quietness and question about Kabuto's whereabouts. Approaching the doorway the sound shinobi hesitated before knocking on the door. Waiting for the appropriate response.

"Kabuto-sensei. It's me, Ukon."

Kabuto looked up from his paper-work at the knock. "You may come in." He made a quick gesture with a hand and the door locks released, allowing the younger man to enter.

"You certainly took your time getting here." Carefully he tidied the desk and pulled a clip-board to the center of the desk covering the papers he had been working on. Only then did he turn to look at his new assistant.

Ukon opened the door and entered the room. Quickly closing the door softly as soon as he had set foot in the room.
"I apolgize. I'm not used to moving about much on my own." He muttered as he took one step away from the door. Looking at Kabuto with a calm facial expression, the oldest twin choose to stay there unless given the word. After all he knew from experience that Kabuto did not appreciate his tools of work being turned into playthings.

If Kabuto appreciated Ukons politeness he didn't show it.

"You'd best learn quickly then. You are going to have to function alone quite a bit."

Then he stands, pulling on a lab coat as he continues.

"Your duties are simple. Do what ever I tell you." He smiles at this 'joke'.

"You will be my...assistant for the next few weeks, or until his lordship either forgives or forgets you. You will help me in my duties; cleaning the labs, taking care of the patients, supervising basic training. You will not be expected to assist me when I report to Lord Orochimaru. Also..."

He trails off, and looks Ukon straight in the eye. "I will be running a series of tests on you. They may or may not be painful and arduous, but nothing compared to what you have already endured. I simply wish to discern the nature of these 'viruses' that we have been struck by. I'm sure this will be in your best interest as well as mine."

Ukon rolled his eyes at the joke, but kindly listened to the medic talk while watching him. After the other shinobi had finished reporting what he was to do, he frowned and gazed upon the floor. Teal lips parting slowly, before looking straight forward again.

"I understand, just tell me what it is that needs to be done and I'll do it as ordered." The older twin quickly muttered while letting a sigh escape. He rubs the back of his head in boredom before inquring. "So basically I just do your chores and be you're little test tube?" He wanted so badly to add the sarcastic comment but held it back. Unlike Sakon, Ukon knew how to refuse to say something one would normally say without much thinking to it.

He looked sharply at the younger man, but did not make a comment. Of course Kabuto did not command the respect Orochmaru did. He could function with insolence just as easy as with awe.

"Our first task will be to clean the botanical garden. It should atleast keep you awake." He sighed and picked up a watering can from beneath his desk. "Do you know the way?"

"To be truthful, no." Ukon responded blanlty, watching the movements of the other with sleepy eyes. "Mmm, I'll stay awake somehow either way. If nothing else a small nap here and there won't hurt." The silver haired man grumbled with a hidden hint of irritation in his tone of voice.
"What all do you want me to clean in thi botanical garden of yours?"

"I see. You needn't worry about loosing sleep, I need you well rested for the tests."

He shuffled around his companion, then headed down the hall, waiting for Ukon to catch up.

"I feed the plants earlier today, so I imagine we'll need to clean the walls and replant some of the less aggressive ones."

He followed, pausing briefly at the mention of aggressive plants. But shook his head and hurried up. What a strange task to be given. And his guardian, for the time, being just stated it as if it were normal that vegetation should be fairly alive like animals.

"...J-just what kind of greenhouse are you raising here? Kabuto-sensei?" Ukon couldn't help but question.

"The kind that would interest his Lordship." Kabuto put it simply, smiling a bit to indicate it was a joke, though who it was on remained a mystery.

By now they had reached a low door on one of the outer walls, locked simply but efficiently with a seal.

"Watch carefully, Ukon. You will be expected to be able to do this on your own." Kabuto executed a few brief hand seals and whistled a bar of music. "That is how you open this door. It will only respond to the proper tune and seals. Get it wrong and the plants will eat you."

Ukon nodded as he watched the exact hand movements and listened to the tune. Tucking away this memory for it's more useful purposes as he rolled his eyes.
"Great. Death by plants." He grumbled, making sure it was just a mess of words so that perhaps the medic wouldn't catch on to his sarcastic remarks. "Then I assume these are man eatting plants. In which case I better not fall asleep here, huh?"

"Exactly" The door swung open. "I have no desire to loose an assistant that I have worked so hard to obtain quite so quickly". With that he walked through the door.

The botanical lab was in an open enclosure, surrounded by a strong fence that managed to disguise itself as ground foliage. Other than their size (and a certain smugness about their features) few of the plants looked out of the ordinary, except that they were far larger than normal.

"I'm sure you'll find more assistants..." His voice faded away as he followed Kabuto. Staring at the size of the plants. "Are you trying to feed an army or something with this?" Ukon joked, trying to make some sort of conversation to prove that this place was nuts and that he was most likely not safe here.

"To the contrary" Kabuto said, with a slight smile. "I was hoping to feed an army to them ( ... )
