Summary: Jyuushirou has an appointment with Unohana, and shows up with promised tea.
It was one minute before their scheduled appointment and Jyuushirou stood outside Unohana’s office, carrying two cups of tea, steaming hot, some milk in a tetra pack and a few sugar cubes, since he didn’t know how Unohana wanted her tea.
He should have asked that first... damn.
He really didn’t know why he felt so nervous about all of this. It was just a checkup, one of many, many he had to do either here at work or at the city hospital over and over again.
As a child, Jyuushirou had been very weak and frail, health-wise. Born with a fragile immune system that made him fall sick from the smallest little thing, he had spent most of his early childhood with constant colds and flues, which often led to pneumonia.
All of that had worn down his lungs and body, and as the icing on the cake, he had serious asthma as well. So it was not strange that Jyuushirou was often on sick leaves and had to do regular checkups. He was often thinking he was already living on borrowed time.
The turkey sandwich and the chocolate Kiyone had brought for him as lunch had lifted his spirits a bit, though, and he felt less tired now then he had done earlier.
There was just so much work to do that it felt like he could never relax for long. Sometimes he envied Shunsui - his friend always seemed to be able to take it easy, no matter what was going on around him.
Jyuushirou looked at the clock on the wall, putting down the tea cups on the table in the waiting room and adjusting his clothes a bit, smoothing back his silver hair behind his ears.
Maybe he wasn’t so nervous about the checkup, as meeting Unohana...
