I'm a 22 year-old female who just graduated college with an art degree. I'm educated, opinionated, and unique, I'm also moving to a new location 1000 miles from my friends and 3 hours from my mother who is the only family i have in the state of Florida. Therefore, I will need to meet new people and make new friends. I had thought the internet may be good for that, and perhaps sites like Myspace or Facebook might still have hope, but from what I've learned here in the small town I'm living in, is that the people who spend their time playing online are the ones with no college education and no drive for any sort of a successful future. I play online because I'm currently unemployed and living in an area where I don't know anyone, I have an excuse. But that leads me to the meat of this post.

Where does someone like myself go to meet people? More specifically interesting, educated, fun, career minded young individuals? I don't want to go sit around at bars because that's just asking for trouble and keep in mind, I'm looking for friends, not a one night stand.

Back when I was in school everyone hung out at Coffee shops, that was mostly because they were either too young for the bars, or too poor to afford internet and coffee shops usually offer free wireless. That being said, do 20-somethings still spend time there?

I'm not so much the type to go places alone. I don't go to movies alone, nor do I hang out at bars alone, the only places I feel comfortable going by myself are coffee shops, the mall, and perhaps Barnes and Noble... but none of those places seem like the best bet for meeting people. Is there something I'm missing?

Moving by myself is going to be hard enough, I can only hope I'll be able to meet some local people so that I can maintain a social life!
