Life and death

I know I'm doing it again.

We had to put Slater down last night. He was very lethargic all day yesterday, not even moving when one of the kids almost stumbled right on him. As this is not normal, we took him to the vet.

He was almost 13, had three major surgeries, and a history of urinary problems. I knew I wasn't going to have him forever. I'm mostly okay, because I knew he was showing signs of the end. He lost weight and he just hasn't been the same for a little while. The choice was obvious. The good-bye was hard. I know it was the right thing to do.

Del is still here.

A week before his move-out date, he started getting dizzy spells. He ended up in the hospital for a few days and got all kinds of tests. The final verdict was a problem with his inner ear, which hopefully is already taken care of. Three more doctor appts that I have to take him to (He's not allowed to drive, currently), and hopefully he'll get the clean bill of health and be on his way.

And then life will go on, as it always does.

I hope it goes well for all of you.
