Software Review: Auslogics Disk Defrag Free Version

Nov 18, 2007 12:49

I'm aware that some of you want to defrag your Windows XP machine to make it faster, but find the stock defragging program that came with the operating system a sluggish piece of crap. Fact is, back then I also tried other programs -- Norton Speedisk, etc. -- to do the same job but it seems that these were also dependent on the same sluggish utility. Normally, to defrag a 37GB hard disk (which my home rig uses) would take me anywhere from 4 hours to half a day using the stock defragger. That amount of slowness could make you bite nails and pull hairs, right? And the bigger the disk, the longer the wait.

Yesterday, out of frustration, I contemplated about asking my dad to buy another 256MB of memory, but then I have to try defragging the machine first. I hated the stock XP defragger and decided to hunt around for something faster. So I downloaded the Auslogics Disk Defrag utility, installed it, and let it rip.

You know what? Within an hour and 24 minutes the 37GB disk was optimized completely. In my book that was blindingly fast, which means that this is a true, lean, kick-ass-and-take-names utility that works superbly as advertised. What's more, it's clean and legit: no spyware or malware.

If you're using XP or Vista on a regular basis and want to go faster, take this and defrag every month. For this excellent piece of work, Auslogics should be given an award from the Australian Prime Minister, and it ranks well with Nicole Kidman, The Beegees, the snorkel air intake attachment for off-road trucks, Mel Gibson, the Aussie SAS and the late Steve Irwin.

Most Excellent.
