There is always something that surprises me with each new group of chapters; I had wondered about Alma's background but never envisaged it quite as it is playing out - does this mean that there is an older Ennis originally from Vermont living with his male partner (Jack?) in Burlington and does this story's Ennis resemble this other Ennis or is just that Alma might think Ennis is gay because he is good looking? Hope you don't make us wait too long to find out more ( ... )

I'm not sure how many more details about Alma's ex will make it into the story. I haven't entirely worked out how big her role will be. He might just remain a vague outline that readers will fill in with their imaginations. (I just realized that I could have made Alma's ex Human interest Ennis given the Vermont setting. :D )

When Kaj asks Ennis to give him a tour of Boston is Ennis joking by saying "of course he wouldn't" or did you mean for him to say "of course he would" - sorry I was a bit confused here.

Kaj asked Ennis if he would mindgiving him a tour of Boston sometime and that's why Ennis says no he wouldn't [mind].

As for Ennis' heart being broken in the past, I left it vague about who did it because there is still the period between 1981 and 1987 to get through.

My beta didn't like what I'd originally written instead of the "You think you got it all figured out" line so you have him to thank for that part.

Yes, single beds exist but remember, this takes place 30 years ago. A lot of teenagers even have their own bathrooms now!

Oh, it was a regular treasure trove of stuff on the curbs at the beginning of September when I lived in Boston in the 80s. Students are often moving to another city and their furniture is not nice enough to be worth renting a van or truck to transport it. Sometimes students have yard sales but furniture isn't always easy to get rid of. A couch is often more attractive free on the street than when it has a price tag in a yard sale. i acquired lots of furniture that way back then.

I'm sure that by that time in their relationship, Joe has found out tornadoes are a running joke in Ennis' life!

Once again, the attention to detail making this story so full. I particularly liked the Alma/Ennis back story and the mysterious husband that left her for another man and the 2 grown daughters.

Thanks for commenting, Roux. :) I hadn't planned on revealing any more info on the mysterious ex-husband but people seem to like that part so who knows. (Gosh, what on earth could that back story be...?)

BTW, I'm only one time zone away from you this week as I'm stranded in Colorado since my return flight to Heathrow was canceled.

It's tempting! But husband back home would be a bit pissed if it turned out I was having too good a time on this extended vacation - thanks to the volcano this 10 day trip has turned into 3 weeks.
