Characters: KKM cast, yes, that means you too, Yozak. GET IN THERE. Location: The Park Rating: ...it's KKM, who knows. (shouldn't be higher than PG-13) Time: Noon Description: Picnic time!
By an oak tree, you say? By then, Yuuri and Co. really shouldn't have been surprised. It was a common enough occurrence in their world to hear the branches of an overhead tree rustling, coupled with the sudden descent of a tall and beamingly sunshiney spy. One could almost say that Yozak's real job was to make sudden and grand entrances, appearing from out of nowhere in what was always an opportune time. In this case, the 'opportunity' was a home-cooked meal.
"Everything looks good, your majesty!" If vaporizing out of thin air didn't give his identity away immediately, that slow, contented drawl most definitely would. And there Yozak stood, picking little bits of tree out of his hair, looking for all the world that he was having the best day of his life.
Yes, by the oak tree. Somehow, Gwendal wasn't all that surprised when his subordinate appeared out of said tree, full of twigs in that obnoxiously orange hair. Though he had to wonder how long Jozak had been here and why he chose only now to show himself.
Conrart's eyes shot up at the first sound from the tree top and grew wider. If he'd still be holding the box of canoli he was pretty sure he would have embarrassed himself by dropping it to the floor. If he was a more emotional man he might have run up to the man but he wasn't. And besides, he knew Yozak could see all he was feeling regardless- he had that pesky talent to read through his masks whether he wanted him to or not.
"Yozak-!" he couldn't help smiling, really. It was selfish of him but he was happy beyond words to see his best friend again.
Lucky for Conrart, Yozak was not exactly shy about being relieved to see all of his friends. Conrart was the proud recipient of an arm around his shoulder, and Yozak used him to lean against while he gave in his report to Gwendal. Things never changed, no matter how much the backdrop might.
"Ah, your excellency! I couldn't give myself away too early, you know."
See, I can spell. :|knitter_gwenApril 25 2010, 09:22:03 UTC
"Even to myself?" Gwendal couldn't help but raise a brow and deadpan, giving his spy a look. Regardless, he merely sighed and shook his head at Josak. "I do hope you also brought something to this meeting other than yourself."
Frankly, Conrart didn't think Yozak needed to bring anything but himself. But knowing his friend, he knew he probably did. He enjoyed the proximity his friend's gesture supplied; trust Yozak to do the exact shameless act he wanted to.
"Truth is . . ." For all that Yozak wanted to look sheepish, it was not an act that he pulled off very well. Especially to those that really knew him. "I've only just arrived. Today in fact, your excellency!"
He finally unhands Conrart, but does not part without bumping his shoulder, like they're boys again. "I haven't been here long, but I can find my way around well enough."
The movement from the trees caught the young Maou by surprise. Scrambling back up to his feet, Yuuri's eyes widened as he caught sight of just who had dropped in on them.
"Y-Yozak?!" Yuuri cried out in surprise. He hadn't even known that the other had been pulled here as well, "When did you get here?"
"Your majesty!" Apparently, Yuuri and Yozak were on opposite ends of the spectrum here: Yuuri was stricken with surprise, and Yozak looked like he naturally fell out of trees in different worlds all the time. He shook his hair out and an entangled acorn fell from it, which he promptly offered to Yuuri. "For good luck, eh?"
In response to Yuuri's question, he leaned in to a conspiratorial closeness, smiling in that very Yozak way. "I only came in this morning. I couldn't let everyone else have all the fun, now could I?"
He peered up in disbelief when it seemed as though his eyes really weren't deceiving him. A quick rub at his eyes quickly threw those thoughts away, and the young Maou found himself grinning widely. It really was Yozak! And at least he was dressed as a man right now!
"Thank you," Yuuri said as the acorn was dropped into his hand. While he didn't know what he'd do with it, it was a gift from Yozak so he'd treasure it... for a while anyway. Did acorns go bad?
Leaning in to better hear Yozak, he really had no idea what to expect. Yozak really was unpredictable, and he could have been there the entire time and he probably wouldn't have know. So when it seemed as though he had only arrived this morning, Yuuri found himself taken by surprise.
"This morning?!" He loudly exclaimed before shaking his head and grinning, "And you already managed to run out and find us?" Yuuri really wasn't that surprised by that fact.
"I can always find you, your majesty!" Yozak looked genuinely happy to see him, maybe a degree more so than usual. He was definitely stepping in closer than he usually did, and the way that he eyed his Maou seemed wrought with concern. His lip twitched, as if he was going to say something and then became lost in the parsing of it, but because he was Yozak, that hesitation went away almost immediately.
"Should you be up so soon . . . ?" Yozak glanced at Conrart, who did not seem concerned in the slightest. This was quite the predicament.
Conrart's expression turned confused at that inquiry. He looked at Yuuri and then back at Yozak, his eyes showing suspicion and deep concern, and the promise of a very long talk, in private.
"We all came here from different times Yozak, so whatever happened before you got here hasn't necessarily happened to us yet. What's the last thing you remember?"
There as no doubt about that. Yozak seemed to have the ability to be able to find him no matter where he was. Yet he found himself distracted by the odd look that the spy decided to give him. Blinking, he wondered if he had something on his face.
Glancing between Conrad and Yozak, Yuuri found himself wondering how the spy had managed to find out about Conrad's injury. He hadn't even been there while the battle had been on, and the thought that he could be referring to something else didn't even register.
"The doctor gave Conrad a clean bill of health," Yuuri offered with confusion colouring his tone. Glancing back to Conrad as he spoke, the lightbulb went on the moment he was reminded of the whole 'different times' thing. It was so easy to forget!
Yozak's jaw went very slack for a moment, though it only took him a moment to recover. When he did, he put his hands (gently!) on Yuuri's shoulders and graced him with a smile bright enough to power Dai Shimeron through the cold winter months.
"I'm glad you've been taking care of the captain for me then, your majesty!" He gave Yuuri a wink, like this was a private joke between them, and turned to answer Conrart's question.
"Last thing I remember . . ." Yozak rubbed a thumb along his jaw, but that little mischievous light in his eyes was enough to clue Conrart in to what he was really thinking. "I remember it was a little stormy in the morning, but it cleared up by the afternoon. What's that I smell?" And off he was, sniffing after the food. He would much rather put off this conversation for one in private later, especially if they could find a good wine to go along with it.
Gwendal took hold of Josak's shoulder and stopped him from moving, "Sit down, Josak."
He sighed lightly and crossed his arms. "You will need to be a little more precise than that. All of us remember very different things prior to our arrival. We were still dealing the Forbidden Boxes before I arrived, His Majesty, King Shinou had taken three of the keys."
Conrart could sense his friend's hesitance probably related to his enigmatic earlier comment. He hurried to step in. "Now now Gwendal, he just arrived. Let the man eat, there'll be plenty of time for that, later" he shot his brother a meaningful glance, that he trusted the other to understand. There was no need to worry Yuuri if they didn't absolutely have to.
