Naoto woke with a groan, suppressing a shudder that wracked his whole body. Fog snugged cloyingly around his face and teased at limbs that the detective could feel had been strictly bound down to a hard unyielding surface. He blinked against bright light, an artificial radiance that hurt his eyes with its intensity. Questions assaulted his thoughts immediately.
Where was he? What had happened? What was going on?
The youth could recall little of the past several hours, knowing only that it had been a dim and dreary afternoon when he had spoken with Winry; and that now it was obviously night beyond the bright lights that focused on him. Naoto hazily began to recall more. He remembered an individual that could have been his twin restraining him with little trouble, despite Naoto and Winry's efforts to form some bond of resonance for the detective to transform. Shirogane had not been unable to bring himself to trust, could not submit his control and will to another, even Winry. They had both been at the mercy of Naoto's Shadow as it attacked with a childish laugh of victory.
Naoto shivered, feeling cold and warm at the same time, and clammy with the draining touch of the fog. But his miserable feelings were not due to the weather alone. His failure to take his still unknown Weapon form had compromised not only his own safety, but that of Winry Rockbell's as well. The detective shifted uselessly against his bonds as he heard faint voices. He strained to see if the engineer had been captured as well; but Naoto could see nothing beyond the blaze of lights that made his vision tear up with pain. "Winry!" The detective finally drew upon enough courage to shout her name, and swallowed nervously as something shifted in the shadows beyond the light.
"They'll never find me here. I'm going to die alone..." The voice was his, but childish and innocent, whimpering with fear and regret. The youth could not help but immediately identify the figure that stepped before the spotlights, complete with long white lab-coat and a duplicate of his own distinctive cap. The coat's too long arms flopped uselessly over the figure's hands as he dabbed at his teary face, but even with his features blocked, Naoto could tell that the being before him could have been his twin.
"Release me, and I will try to save you-" Began the the detective wearily, annoyance straining his features at the sight of himself resorting to such pathetic behavior. But the child-like Shadow only gave a mournful sob, and sat down at the base of the table, leaning against it as he cried freely into his long lab-coat sleeves.
"Alone...why am I always alone? Why does no one ever care what happens to me?" Sobbed the child-like detective, completely ignoring his other self's attempts to silence his tears. Naoto struggled uselessly against his bonds, wondering what he had done to deserve such torture. What precisely was the purpose of wearing his face and practicing such humiliating and childish behavior? The young detective seethed, but even his anger could not free the bonds that tightened against his struggles.
