He did eventually catch on to what Reborn was trying to do, the moment he stepped onto the grounds and realized he had forgotten about Gokudera's disappearance. It almost made him smile but then, you know this was training with guns. Not something Tsuna was okay with(though it had to be better than their earlier training sessions that involved Reborn throwing bats after him).

Tsuna grumbled silently as he shifted his stance a little, looking and feeling like a fish out of water. He had barely gotten used to using bows and arrows with Gokudera. Now he had to learn how to shoot?

"But--guns--I-I'm never going to be able to use them," Tsuna protested, flailing a little. He really, really wasn't all that fond of guns. And he was never going to be able to hit a target with them.

"At least don't make it so obvious that you can't from the start, dame-Tsuna," Reborn said with a long-suffering sigh, prodding Tsuna's leg into some semblance of balance. "Though I have no intention of stopping until you can hit the bulls-eye eight times out of ten."

"How am I suppose to get eight out of ten?" He protests, stumbling a little when Reborn prods at him.

"With practice, Tsuna, practice," Reborn said, jumping up onto Tsuna's shoulder and sighting expertly along his outstretched arm for the target. "I don't expect actual miracles, you know."

It'll be a miracle if I can even graze the target Tsuna feels like saying but he doesn't feel like getting kicked in the head either so he levels Reborn with a flat look before steadying the gun in his hands, lifting the gun a little to aim for the bulls eye.

"If you can manage to handle your X-burner, this really shouldn't be difficult," Reborn said with deceptive mildness. He tapped Tsuna's shoulder with his hand. "Try it now."

Tsuna swallowed and nodded again. Okay shoot. Or Reborn might shoot him.

Three, two, one...

Unconsciously, he squeezed his eyes shut as he fired the gun.

BANG!

He cracked open one warily, wondering how badly he missed. Reborn was right, the recoil didn't even hurt but--

"Eyes open next time, Tsuna." Reborn said shortly. As Tsuna had expected, the bullet had gone very wide. "If you're not going to even attempt to aim, you'll be a danger to everyone around you."

Tsuna blanched. "I didn't close them on purpose."

But okay. A second time. Eyes open this time.

BANG!

Did he...hit the target?

Reborn reached impatiently for the gun, taking it easily from Tsuna's unresisting hand.

"When I said you should keep your eyes open, I meant for you to be watching where you were shooting, you realize." He sighted along the barrel again. "If you need to ask the question," the weapon is absolutely steady despite its size, too big for his small hands, "you weren't paying attention." And he braces both hands against the backlash to shoot the target three times in quick succession, each one a bullseye.

"A bit of a kick to this one," he mused to himself, before handing it back to Tsuna. "Eyes on the target," he advises, fingers nudging Tsuna's into position. "If you keep your finger tight on the trigger, you only need to squeeze slightly." He shifts Tsuna's arm into position again. "Feet apart, one slightly in front of the other, keep your arm steady, but don't lock it or you'll injure yourself."

He can't help thinking to himself that this would be a lot easier if he were taller...

It should have felt weird to have a baby teach him how to shoot but there were weirder things in life and somewhere along the line, Tsuna had gotten used to it. It was kind of a horrifying thought, actually.

He lets Reborn nudge him into position and raises his head to look at the target again, waiting to receive the okay from Reborn to shoot again.

"A little higher," Reborn corrects verbally, letting Tsuna adjust himself this time. "You're the one in control of the gun, Tsuna, not anyone else. If you don't think of it as an extension with yourself, you won't get good results."

"Now."

Tsuna adjusts his aim and forces himself to relax again. Think of it as an extension of himself, okay, got it.

...actually what. Okay. So he'll just pretend it was a low powered X burner or something no biggie.

He frowns, focuses and fires the gun again, this time, finally hitting the mark. It was far from a bulls eye but it was an improvement at least.

"Better," Reborn concedes, but then continues in a more scathing tone of voice, "I'll be sure to ask for you if I ever need the side of a building to be lightly singed. You can do better than that."

He nods decisively. "Again, Tsuna."

Gee, thanks he thinks but does not say and brings up the gun again to fire another shot.

"You need a firmer grip, Tsuna," Reborn corrects in a surprisingly mild tone of voice. "I promise the gun isn't going to bite you. You need to be the one in control of it. It's nothing but a tool, after all."
