Kaoru stopped her own set of strokes to run a hand through her black bangs, glancing at him curiously, managing to look suspicious. "You just want to stop practicing. "
He shook his head. "That's not it. I just don't think training's going to be very effective today." He paused before continuing. "There's been a lot happening lately. Maybe instead of training, we can do some thinking."
His statement was purposefully vague, giving Kaoru the option of addressing her personal issues or the catastrophes in world affairs.
"But great! I can do hot chocolate. My treat. Let's go!" And he grabbed her wrist (the one holding the sword because he didn't want to get smacked again), and started dragging her towards the closest Deathbucks.
"What was that? " She growled low in her throat, inching towards him menacingly only to yelp as she was suddenly pulled along, huffing her displeasure. "H-Hey !!"
"It'll be fun," he insisted as he tugged her off the training grounds. He slowed after a few steps, and then gently released her wrist. "I don't think you get enough fun in your life."
"I-I get plenty of fun! I'm only seventeen!" She protested, as he tugged on her hand, her wide blue eyes peering up into his face, cheeks puffed out. "...I-I'm not old or anything!" She defended, as he let go, waving her wrist, her fingers all bandaged. But she wouldn't give you time to notice that in training!
"..I have discipline, that's all! Unlike someone."
He held up his hands as if he were trying to ward off her words. "I never said you were old!" he laughed. He caught sight of her bandaged fingers and wondered what had happened, whether he should ask....
"You think I have no discipline?" he asked, still with a hint of teasing in his voice.
Kaoru's fingers were all covered in bandages, from the base to where her palms began. It was pretty suspicious. But! All roads are paved with good intentions, but plenty of pitfalls..
"..I think you're a lazy bum if you aren't motivated." She retorted, glancing at him with a smirk.
Kaoru lightly swatted at his hair, ruffling it. "Haha, very funny, Takuto-kun. I see right through you, you'd make a great freeloader! " She scoffed, pausing as he noted her hands.
For a minute she looked like the seventeen year old girl she was, and she flushed, placing them to her chest, as she tilted her head, smiling sheepishly. "..Ah well--they're battle scars for everyone having a good Christmas this year. " She said cheerfully, with some pride as she puffed out her chest.
He laughed a little, but mostly looked impressed. "What kind of presents are you making that hurt your hands so much?" he asked, before suddenly backtracking. "Unless it's a present for me, in which case you don't have to say." He did like surprises, after all.

"What sort of stupid answer is that? THINKING? ...And I'd rather have hot chocolate! Coffee makes you crazy, I hear."

He hesitated, and then spoke carefully without looking at her, a tinge of concern in his voice. "Your hands look like they could use the break, too."

"... battle scars?" He frowned in skepticism. "I didn't think you were supposed to end up scarred by Christmas...."

"..Speaking of. What do you want for Christmas? " Kaoru stared at him curiously.
