[The ruffling’s only for a bit, and soon Date withdraws - although he’s still grinning. He finally takes the spoon out of his mouth and polishes up the last of his ice-cream - the thing’s starting to melt quickly, so leaving it out now would be just a waste instead. Fortunately there’s not much left to eat up, and its only a few more minutes before the older samurai finishes up his ice-cream.]

That hit the spot. [Yeah, it really did enjoy the ice-cream it seems, and it shows. Helping himself to a glass of water now.] Oh yeah - while we’re at it, it would be good for you to join the Watch. You can earn good money there for your stuff. [Plus its a good job anyway, so why not. And he’s Zone Leader too now, which makes things even better.]

[Date makes a small shrug in return.] Why not? Koujurou, Sanada Yukimura and Motochika is there - the Boss Lady, too. [It seriously surprised him when he saw Saika’s name on the list; while he knew she was in Death City, he didn’t know that she was part of the Watch as well until recently. He should really try and contact her properly sometime when he had the chance, that one time wasn't that good enough... it had been a long time since he last saw her.]

[There’s a brief pause here, and Date speaks up again - this time attempting to explain things better so that Ieyasu’s more accepting.] It’s basically a force to ensure that the people of Death City don’t come to any harm in the case of an attack... but we also ensure that there’s peace in the city as well, and that nobody tries to start anything. Dante and I were just promoted to Zone Leaders too, so we can help you as well if you need anything.

[And then Dante can actually do something for once instead of slacking... really, he needed to show something to Mustang at least.]

[Truthfully Date is a little apprehensive himself about the way things are now with the people of Hi-No-Moto and themselves in the structure in the Watch. Though for now at least all is well, and the people who are there are the ones who won’t cause trouble. But still, Date knows that he needs to keep an eye on them all (Koujurou aside, of course) - much as he was a Zone Leader now, he also had the responsibility to keep the people from his own world in line and ensure that they don’t cause trouble for the rest.]

[Anyway, to the question at hand. Date takes a moment to down his glass of water first before replying.] Find Roy Mustang at his inbox - he posts a lot, so you should be able to locate him easily. From there its just a matter of applying and you should be good to go. [Not too hard at all, and Date is glad that Ieyasu is receptive to the idea. That makes things a lot easier for him as well.]

[Date only grins slightly, making a small shrug that goes with his words.] No problem. I’m sure you’ll be just fine for him.

[He knows that Mustang is always more than happy to have new members signing up for the Watch (it was still seriously understaffed), and by all means and accounts Ieyasu is somebody who is dependable and trustworthy - or at least he is, to Date’s eye. Which pretty much said everything that he needed anyway - he’s never really been one to care about the concerns of others so much in the first place (unless they were Koujurou’s, but that was another matter.)]

[Well to be honest, Ieyasu’s more than proved himself to Date’s eyes already for what he had done in the time he’s been here before. Still of course, he can’t be wholly certain just yet - but he is very inclined to believe in Ieyasu now, more than ever. The proof that he initiated this alliance is a fact that he is at least ready to trust in Ieyasu. Besides, this was the guy who’d eventually unify Hi-No-Moto. If Date couldn’t trust a guy like that, then who else could he trust?]

I suppose it doesn’t hurt to explain the Watch to you. [A brief pause as Date mentally runs through the stuff in his head and picks on what to explain - the basics would do; he’s sure that Ieyasu can pick up the rest later once he starts working.] It runs on a patrol shift on three timings, each of them spanning six hours long. The first starts at noon and the last starts at midnight; there’s a blackout period from six in the morning to noon, mainly because most of the people are awake then.

[He pauses after this, letting Ieyasu digest this information; he’ ( ... )

For the most part you’re just supposed to patrol the area you’re given, but some people usually take the extra step and work in other areas and times as well if they wish so. [Date can name two people he knows who already does that, although he can’t really say that its a bad thing.] Mostly though, as long as you do your patrol and attend the occasional briefings that happen that’s fine enough.

[He doesn’t mind the questions of course, and is more than happy to answer whatever Ieyasu has in mind - it’ll let him answer the things that the younger samurai has on mind, anyway.] As to how the patrols work, usually one shift will at least compromise of one partnered pair, or an unpartnered Weapon and Meister pair so that every individual will be able to defend themselves in case of an attack. Sometimes though, it’ll be two Weapons instead if there’s not enough Meisters to go around. Since you’re a Meister, you’ll most likely have to work with another Weapon if there’s one free. [Then again, the Watch is kind of understaffed still so who ( ... )

I’m sure you’ll find somebody you can work with eventually. Maybe that somebody’s in the Watch, for all you know. Anything can happen here. [Who knows, really. Maybe Ieyasu would find his partner in the Watch, sort of like how Date himself found Dante. Though he supposes his partnership really isn’t exactly in the norm.]

[Anyway.]

[Date pauses as he ponders over Ieyasu’s last question, trying to recall something for a moment.] I think there’s somebody who uses fists to fight as well, and he has a weapon for that. I think getting a weapon for you shouldn’t be a problem - of course, you should ask to make sure. [The older samurai himself isn’t that all certain; asking the head honcho himself is a much better option, considering everything.] If there isn’t, I’m sure he’ll be able to work out something for you that you’ll find acceptable.

[Date nods in response to the first question.] Yeah, one of the guys. Can’t remember exactly who, though. Might be worth asking around, if you’re interested in it. [Most of the people in the Watch were rather friendly, so he supposes that Ieyasu won’t have too much trouble if he asks.] But aside from that, there’s also the fact of whatever your partner might be. Some of the forms that Weapons take can be... strange.

[...yeah, he’s not going to start on the things he’s seen around here.]

You might need to work with something you’ve never even seen before. [For Date himself, that was with the giant demonic claymore known better as Rebellion.]
