[Date shakes his head here then, letting out a small grunt while he’s at it before he looks back at the other warlord.] It’s not going to be just your problem if it escalates here - this isn’t Hi-No-Moto, where things can be settled on the battlefield. Death City is a place with only a few of us here and the rest of the people uninvolved with the issues we face back in our world. As part of the Watch, I can’t let civilians be involved into the mess that we have - and seeing how Triangle is for myself, he’ll only end up involving unnecessary people in if the situation is left as it is.

[There is a pause after those words as Date contemplates on what he’s just said. More and more now, he knows that he’s getting attached to Death City in ways he perhaps shouldn’t; but its a fact that he won’t be returning to Hi-No-Moto and Oshu until BREW sees fit, and he’s made more and more... comrades here already. And then there’s the Watch now, and his new position as Zone Leader... more and more, the he can feel the responsibility that weighs on his shoulders yet again. But still, he cannot falter - he’s already faltered enough.]

[...idle thoughts again, nevertheless. Date puts them aside quickly so that he can return to his conversation with Ieyasu at hand.] It’s not that I don’t trust you in handling the issue, but there’s no telling what might happen while we’re here. Its better to play safe as much as its possible to.

[Revenge... Date himself can’t help but just frown at that, clearly not at all approving at what he’s heard. Revenge... its certainly something that he can understand well - after all, he had fallen it its vicious cycle once before and had lost what was perhaps one of the most dearest things he had held close to him then. He understands the dark side of revenge, and understands it well - but still, that doesn’t make him any more sympathetic to Mitsunari. The other is still doing something that’s clearly wrong, and Date wasn’t going to stand for that, not with his position now.]

[Still, he can’t exactly say no to Ieyasu when the other puts it out like that. Date really has no idea what Ieyasu is thinking to say something like that, but he supposes he can do little else but trust in the other’s judgement - after all, this is the guy who would eventually unify Hi-No-Moto and usher in what would be present Japan now. As the head of Oshu, he could do nothing more but to put faith in what Ieyasu wants to do.]

…alright, I suppose anything else I say won’t convince you otherwise anyway. [He’s reluctant, but there’s really nothing else he can do if Ieyasu so insists.] But the moment Triangle steps out of line, I’m going to have to step in. I hope you understand that.

[The older samurai makes a nod at that, accepting the terms. He’ll let Ieyasu handle the issue for as long as he’s able to - at least, he’s trusting the other to do what he thinks is right. That’s the most he can do now; to trust and believe in him. If he couldn’t even do that, then he might as well give up on what he actually wanted to do with Ieyasu today.]

[Anyway, the ice-cream finally arrives, and Date politely thanks the waitress who serves them. He takes up his glass of chocolate ice-cream and starts to help himself to it without wasting another moment, giving both of them a moment to rest before they’d start speaking again. He’s got something important to raise pretty soon anyway. Might as well enjoy this moment while he still had it.]

[Ice-cream is certainly quite a nice thing to eat, yes - doubly so after such a long while for Date too (about a good year and two months or so for him, including the time he was returned by BREW). He indulges himself well into the treat, knowing that its going to be a bit before he has the time to come here again; there’s too many things he has to do now these days, and with his new Zone Leadership things are undeniably going to be more busy. So while he has the chance, he’ll take his moment to enjoy it as much as he can.

He’ll talk about what he wanted to bring up later once he’s done with the ice-cream. At least it isn’t too much.]

[Well Date is certainly taking his own time with his own ice-cream, but he isn’t going to let that hinder with what he wants to do. So once he sees that Ieyasu is mostly done, the older samurai helps himself to another spoonful before he starts to speak up again.]

Earlier you said that you and I allied up against Triangle... did that happen the last time? [He’s mostly asking out of curiosity, really, and he doesn’t mind if Ieyasu doesn’t give him an answer - Date just isn’t that sure how he can start on his topic without feeling too awkward. The encirclement with Oda aside, alliances were never something that he was good at. But he needed to do this himself, still. As... hard as this was going to be in someways. Oshu and his army had always been a fiercely independent force right from the start - but circumstances had changed, and Date knew better now on what needed to be done.]

… [Date really can’t help but let out a snort of amusement here, almost wondering if this was fate or some other powers at work. This did make things a lot easier on his own part, and what he had intended to accomplish. Perhaps there was a reason to Ieyasu’s return and re-arrival by BREW after all - of course, that doesn’t mean that Date’s going to like that device, but at least he could appreciate it a bit better. Somewhat.]

[He doesn’t reply immediately, instead opting to eat another mouthful of delicious chocolate ice-cream (he really needed to have some of this back in the apartment; he should get Koujurou on this later when he had the chance to) before he looks back at Ieyasu with a grin and jabs the end of the spoon towards the other.] Well, you’d better make sure you uphold that properly, coz’ I’ve got every intention to work with you starting from now.

[That’s as close as you can get to ‘yes, I want to form an alliance with you’ from somebody like Date Masamune.]

[To those words Date only arches one eyebrow (the one over his good eye, of course), going back to eat another spoonful of ice-cream and is halfway in digging out another before he does reply.]

I just said that, didn’t I? I don’t like to repeat myself, you know. [Pause now, as Date eats the spoonful he just got out and then starts taking out another, adding on while he does so.] Besides, as you very well know I killed the giant monkey back in my own world. Triangle hates my guts as it is already, so there’s no lost love there. [And he really doesn’t care for Mitsunari as it is anyway, so there’s really nothing to lose for him.]

You can move to a new thread in your next tag, Jas. \o/ getyourgunson April 20 2011, 09:00:04 UTC
[Deep inside, Date has a good feeling that Koujurou is going to somewhat expect this later - the retainer had always seemed very approving of Ieyasu, and more than ever Date can see why too. Now he certainly can believe better that he’s made a good choice in making this alliance - at least now, things were far more secure than they had been when he first arrived alone and lost in this strange new world.

Spoon still in his mouth, the older samurai blinks once at the proffered hand before he returns it with one of his own, sealing their words and their bond with a handshake. As a samurai, his word was his bond... and his handshake just cemented the alliance that would hold them together for as long as they were able to maintain it - and Date hopes that can be for a while, indeed.]

The Oshu-Mikawa alliance. [Said with as much of a grin as he can manage while the spoon was still in-between his teeth. Once the handshake is done though Date reaches out in order to ruffle up the latter’s hair, grinning still.] You’re not that bad at all, Tokugawa. I’m sure we can go places pretty easily.
