DID SOMEBODY SAY 'PIANO'?! hesgotsoul March 19 2011, 14:16:06 UTC
For all intensive purposes, Soul had believed that today was going to be utterly boring. He and Maka were cooped up in Death City again, and the training session had been horrendously uneventful, as expected. Now he was wandering around on his on, on the off-chance that something might happen. If not... well, he wasn't sure WHAT he was going to do.

Then he heard a piano. He'd know that sound anywhere.

Cue Soul wandering over, slinking about, watching the kid (has he seen this guy before? Probably on the network...) play for a bit before finally approaching when he was done with one of his songs.

"You're not bad."

And when he heard the words as he finished the last few notes of his piece, he blinked in surprise at the presence behind him. Somebody who... he didn't know? Wait, no, he looked vaguely familiar. Maybe. Either way, he kind of reminded John of a troll now that he got a look at the guy's teeth, but anyways.

"It's sort of been a while since I've played," he mentioned, fingers coming off of the keys and hands resting by his sides on the bench. John Egbert was a guy who was a bit deaf to praise. "I didn't know they had a piano here!"

"She's one of the few, actually."

Now Soul was strolling over. He slipped his hands out of his pockets once he was close enough, and reached out to touch the keys for himself.

"Did you teach yourself how to play, or did you have lessons?" the Weapon asked, as he plunked a few keys.

"My dad taught me," he stated simply, scooching over on the bench so that Soul could access the keys more easily. "Ever since I was little! I guess with how long it has been, I should be like Mozart right now, heh."

John turned to glance at Soul. "Um. Do you play?"

"Yep, since I was a kid."

Not quite sitting down yet, but it's obvious from the look on his face that he's right about ready to give it a whirl. Maybe with a bit more pushing...

"Oh, hey. Same here!"

He looked down curiously at the hands on the keys, then back up at Soul. And oh yeah, he recognized the look. That was the look John himself had when he'd seen the piano himself, after all!

So he stood up from the bench and stepped to the side, extending his hand toward the empty seat with a bit of a corny flourish and a grin.

The kind gesture earned his companion a tiny, almost-approving smile. Soul then sat down, flexing his fingers for a bit before starting.

Simple first, not quite hesitant. He was warming up.

And John watched with interest as the other boy played the notes on the piano. He didn't really know anyone else who played piano besides his dad, so he was actually pretty curious to see what other people played.

So he stood by Soul's side, his eyes looked on the keys and observing what was being played, maybe like a little kid trying to figure out a magician's trick, even as simple as it was in the beginning.

And that was when things started getting complex. It didn't have the makings of something refined and polished, but the tune was raw and edgy, indicative of the fact that this guy played straight from the heart.

Soul also actually LOOKED like he was enjoying himself too, for once, and no longer seemed to be aware of his company. It was just him and the piano.
