Jade had found the music store a week ago, wandering around the Shopping District while waiting for her shift to start. Hanging out in the Watch office had still been fairly intimidating still -- everyone was older than her, taller than her. They'd all seen more experience in battle, and she was just a little girl with a rifle and hardly any field experience ( ... )

John let out a surprised "Whoa!" when he heard the young female voice behind him because he was pretty sure the only person in the store had been the guy behind the register and the last time he checked, that guy was a GUY and definitely not young and fe-

-- oh it was Jade. That made more sense. He couldn't help the wide smile growing on his face as he greeted, "Hey Jade!" He brought up his legs to sit cross legged on the bench, turning so that he could face her. "Did you come here to shop?"

"Hi John! You should have told me that you came here!" She grinned and sat down in a chair next to the piano. Pointing at the bass on the wall, she nodded.

"Yeah, I've been coming here ever since I found out they had an electric bass! I'm trying to save up money for it and my puppy too, so it might take awhile...but I'm going to get it!"

He didn't get a very good look around the store before he had noticed the piano, so he looked surprised when he saw what Jade was pointing at.

"Jade, you should totally get one," he agreed, because just from playing the piano a little here, he was starting to understand what it was like to be unable to play a practiced instrument for a while. But then something belatedly processed in his head, and he blinked with wide eyes.

"Wait, you are going to get a puppy?!" Yup, there is some definite excitement in his tone there.

"I want to! I've missed my bass a lot, and this is kind of like it..." at the risk of rambling, she just decided to cut off there. John probably wouldn't appreciate getting a bass that could fit her arms properly. And once she got it, it wouldn't be hard to make it eclectic again. With the right tools, she could have it done in a few weeks.

"Yes, I'm going to get a puppy! But first I have to save up all my money, so I'm still waiting. Puppies are really expensive!"

"Whoa, really?" Huh, he didn't really ever wonder how expensive dogs would be. John always figured that you could just pick one up somewhere, no problem!

"How much?", he asked her, face scrunched up as he tried to remember how much he had saved up from his job. He already spent a lot of it on stuff like posters though, whoops. "I could help pay! It could be the newest member of the family, and we could name it something really awesome."

"No, you don't have to! I make a ton more than you do - no offense! - so I will pay for it, it's fine! There's just food, and shots for the puppy so he doesn't get sick, and stuff to walk him and groom him..."

She paused. A family puppy would be kind of nice. "I'm naming him Coulomb! But...he can still be your puppy too, if you want!"

"Well," John said with a laugh, "That's okay! You will be paying, and he will be yours, and also I don't think I am ready to be a dad yet, heheh." Speaking of which, he wondered what happened to Casey or Dr. Meowgon back in SBURB anyways. He sure hoped that they were doing okay, he felt a bit bad for leaving them!

"I can be his uncle instead," he compromised. "He can stay at my place when you and Dave are on Watch, and I will be the best uncle ever, I promise!"

"I think you will be a really good dad! Eventually, not right now!" She laughed as well, looking back at the bass on the wall. She wanted it right now, but the puppy came first. As cuddly as Cheshire was, there was just no comparison to having a puppy at the foot of your bed.

"Oh, would you do that? Thank you!"
