Gaara stood in the living room with his arms crossed over his chest, tension shifting under his skin. Lee would be home soon.

Gaara's fingers tightened on his arms. He wasn't accustomed to having anyone disregard his orders. It was...unsettling. Particularly when it came to something like this. So many times, Gaara had ordered Lee to stop taking unnecessary risks. And each time, Lee calmly refused him. The thought that kept rising in his mind was that Lee just didn't understand...that somehow, Gaara had to make him understand how important this was, to make him realize that his safety meant everything.
The door opened, and Lee entered. Gaara turned to face him. "You're here," he said. A knot of tension inside him loosened, as it always did when Lee entered the apartment. But a deeper tension remained. "I won't allow you to be hurt," he said. "I can't."
