Catching sight of the various weapons laid against the tree, he looks over them once before nodding in greeting]
Would you still be interested in that spar? While I specialize in empty-handed combat, I have no issue combating against one armed.
Reply
Certainly, though I would prefer unarmed, I think. I rarely have the opportunity to spar against another trained martial artist, so I'd rather take the chance to test and refine my own technique a little.
[He doesn't shift to adopt a stance just yet, as there's a question or two he needs to ask first.]
If you don't mind me asking, have you discovered your Meister Ability yet?
Reply
I appreciate it. As I mentioned previously, I need to do some adapting of my own...
[He's patient though, arms still folded neatly into his sleeves as he considers the inquiry]
In a sense. It's not concrete yet, but I've devoted myself to meditation and found I have a vague sense for people- souls I suppose, in this world- and my surroundings. It's very similar to my bloodline ability in my world, so I'm sure I'll grasp it rather quickly from here.

I see. Abilities develop in different ways for different Meisters, but if you want to accelerate the process, resonance with a Weapon will enhance it depending on the strength of the bond. [He adds off-handedly:] And frequent use, if you can manage the physical drain.
[Neji's power didn't sound combat-oriented, in any case, so Vergil decides against using his own. Truth be told, he shouldn't utilize it against another without being sure they could handle him in that state, anyway.]
[He takes a brief moment to pry his boots from his feet - unarmed only, after all - and flexes his ankles experimentally.]
Alright, are you ready?

Neji wonders about Vergil's boots but neglects to comment, instead focused on the man's form as he shifts into a vague stance, one foot backward, the other nudged forward, one arm held out while the other kept close to his body- an open palm style of martial arts while his weight remains centered and flexible.
At this point, he's accustomed to having the Byakugan active, can almost picture the landscape coloring to shades of white and gray, blue pinpoints of chakra replacing clothing and skin. But that's not now and the vision in front of him wouldn't change, forced to rely on natural insight in order to anticipate and react]
Whenever you are.

[Defensive stance, open palm? Promising. It displayed distinct signs of being an internal style, which was of particular interest to Vergil. Of course, how refined it was remained to be seen. He balances down into a more fluid posture , easing both fists before him, left at full extension with the right aligned a short distance behind it ( ... )

[ooc: Fighting tags can be difficult to write with others, so feel free to anticipate some of Neji's movements in order to make tags easier. I find that writing can become very stunted and drawn out otherwise, moving one punch at a time. If you need a reference, Neji's style is based on Baguazhang, and it's these adaptations I'm applying in order to make up for his lack of chakra]

His own leg rose to block the kick, but he was quickly abused of the notion of a slight difference in speed as the attack skimmed over his late-rising knee and caught him squarely in the stomach. He exhaled raggedly and stumbled backward under the force of the blow, barely managing to keep his feet.]
[He doesn't reassume his guard or stance, instead pausing, catching his breath, and then:] That... isn't regular human speed. [Or strength, judging by the kick. His eyes are studious.] And you're more skilled with an internal style than I am. [The implied question was "How?"]

Observant from such a short exchange. [But he sounds amused by that and nods] People from my world are trained from a very young age, develop natural abilities to a heightened state using chakra. We're absent of that power here, but our physical prowess remains.
As for my particular style, it's an advanced type of taijutsu- or martial arts. It's taught and handed down to compliment the natural abilities of those born into my clan with these eyes.
[OOC: Ah alright, that works! Neji will be happy to tl;dr about his style and things haha. How interesting that Vergil is/was looking for someone proficient with an internal style :>]

Reading is something of a specialty. [He doesn't elaborate further - the explanation raised far too many questions to be overly concerned with speaking of himself right this moment. Where to start...]
I've heard of the concept of chakra, but I suspect it may have differing nuances between the version that exists in my world and yours. What is it, exactly? [Also...] Is there a particular significance to your eyes?

Chakra is a tangible sort of energy in our world. It runs through a system similar to the blood circulatory system, though more complex and nearly impossible to repair. Coils wind through the body between cells and wrap around internal organs and this allows shinobi to utilize a wide variety of special techniques through molding their chakra and releasing it.
[And for his other question...]
The chakra circulatory network can't be seen by normal eyes- much like anything existing underneath the skin- and my unadapted style aims to close individual points called tenketsu in this network in order to render another shinobi's techniques useless. It's a style unique to the Hyuuga Clan and made possible because we're the only ones gifted with the ability to see the internal chakra system through our enhanced optical technique ( ... )
