It was, in actuality, a serious question. He wasn't out to mock the other, or drive a point home. Mukuro wanted to see just how far this one - this man/not-man - had gone.

"The moment that I burnt down one of their towns and killed the President I was free of their chains," he said without any doubt within his mind. It was obvious to all but Sephiroth, however, that he still remained unwillingly chained to his past by the hatred he felt.

If that was what Sephiroth believed, than that was what he believed. Perhaps, with another person, Mukuro would push a little more, insinuate, make the other doubt.
He'd wonder, at another time, what made this one different.

"And what of you?" Sephiroth asked, his voice smooth and calm, "You broken the shackles that you'd once been bound by."
Reply
But that was going to change soon enough - he need only be patient. It had been difficult in his younger years to deal with that fact, but age did nothing short of force one to appreciate time.

It was amazing how he could speak of such things so casually. Then again, ten years was a very, very long time.
"My spirit is capable of wandering where it wants to, however, and there is a girl in my world who has agreed to become my vessel. I do not really need a body of my own, in as much as it makes certain things more convenient."
There were other matters, of course, but those could be discussed when a better opportunity presented it self. This was the most immediate answer he could give.

"You have no desire to break yourself free such a facility?" He couldn't help but ask in return. That had been one of his greatest desires when he'd been trapped within that mako crystal prison during the Age of Meteor. It had taken much sacrifice and manipulation of his puppets in order to achieve that, but he had ultimately released himself from his prison.
Was Mukuro hoping to do the same back in his world?

"I have my reasons for staying."
He felt no shame, now, admitting to it. He might not have done so before.
Briefly, Mukuro wondered how Chikusa, Ken and Chrome were doing.

"We all have our reasons behind our actions," Sephiroth eventually murmured after a long silence. Mentally shaking his thoughts from his mind, the ex-General focused his attention back on his companion. Lips curved up into a mirthless smirk, he murmured, "I suppose that it's fortunate for you to have escaped your cage, even if such a thing is temporary. Granted, being here is more like relocating from one cage to another."

Given the circumstances he had been dealing with prior to his arrival, perhaps it wasn't a surprise that Mukuro would look at things that way.

Knowing what little he did about the man in front of him, Sephiroth doubted that Mukuro meant far more behind that statement. "Either you are far too easily amused, or events back home were less than becoming," he said regardless of his thoughts.
While he'd never admit to it, Sephiroth had found himself to be slowly accepting the irritating fate that had befallen him since his arrival here.

He was standing up now, and moving to join the other properly. His smile remained in place.
"Although admittedly, you are correct. Things were not exactly ideal at the point of my departure."
Reply
That was a concept he'd never truly considered even after breaking from ShinRa. He'd been so focused on his duties and vengeance that what remained of his life had always been focused on that.
He sensed Mukuro moving, but didn't pull away even as the meister came to stand beside him. Glancing over at the other male, he regarded Mukuro quietly as those words were spoken.
"It appears to be a common theme," he murmured before glancing away. "The body I had recreated myself had been destroyed once again moments before my arrival here."

Languid stretch, casual questions. Mukuro liked asking questions, really. Maybe he liked it even more than actually receiving answers.

That question drew Sephiroth's attention back towards Mukuro. Flashes of the reactor in Nibelheim ran through his mind before the image became engulfed within Lifestream.
"My body corroded and dissolved within the blood of the Planet," Sephiroth said, his tone becoming detached as he glanced up towards the sky, "But my strong will called to each cell remaining throughout the Planet. The Reunion..." His words trailed off, and Sephiroth made no attempt to continue.
Reunion. It was almost amusing when he thought about it, but now that he did, Sephiroth wasn't quite certain what to make of the fact that such an important event had slipped his mind.
