On the roommate thing; most partners move in together, so if you find somebody who you resonate well with you probably won't have to live alone.

Human nature doesn't really change. I'm not particularly hopeful that my efforts to find someone will be fruitful. Not quickly, and perhaps never to my precise liking.

Life isn't perfect, especially not here, but why not try to make the best of it?
