It seems that we fight to preserve safety.

[a human. so many humans in this city.]

Hmm, safety is indeed an essential component of a successful democracy.

I think it's an essential component for the well-being of any nation. If you have that taken care of, your problems are, theoretically, much slimmer. At least, that's how it is back home.

I take it you're from a democracy, then?

Your home is well defended then, girl? Your leaders take care of their militia?

No. [his voice becomes hard.] I was not.

My home is a small country on the edge of the world, defended by ancient magic. We don't have a milita. As for the other nations, I know they do. I've seen it.

I see. I'm... sorry I asked.

Magic, you say? Tell me more about this magic. I humbly request, of course.

No matter, no matter. But I do not wish to discuss my past.

We have a barrier, constructed and sealed by the witches of old. It can be unsealed, but it requires a great deal of power to be able to do so. Ones that possess that level of power are quite rare. Right now, the only one who can do it is our nation's queen.

[And okay then. She'll drop that.]

Your queen controls the barrier? She decides who may leave and who may enter? I hope she is a magnanimous queen and not a horrible tyrant.

[Sup WV you're talking to said queen. How to answer this....]

She tries her best to be a good ruler, though she hasn't been in power for very long. Her mother was not a tyrant, and my countrymen and I loved her very much. All our current queen wants is to be like her.

[....oh. FANCY THAT. Long-ish pause.]

If there must be a monarchy, the sovereigns ought to behave like your queen. At least she is not a king!

I hope she'd be a ruler you'd like. I'm not one to make assumptions, normally, but it seems like you value the same things.

Perhaps we do. Have you a name, human girl?

My name is Xelha. What can I call you?

Xehla...how peculiar. I like it.

Names are not given as much significance where I am from. I have been a Wayward Vagabond for many years, so WV should suffice.
