So I feel kinda obligated to update since I had such a big weekend. Let me start by saying that the drive to Atlanta is pretty much unbearable. But once you're there it's a pretty neat place. I went with Cattlin to meet Rachel and this girl whose name I still don't know, and we went to see Panic at the Disco.
Their original venue got hit by a tornado, so I understand, so they moved the concert to this place called masquerade, which is just as well because it was so cool. The Masquerade itself is this bar whose inside is fashioned after a monastery/dungeon. And all the lights were red. And judging from the music played at closing time, I would get along just fine with the establishment's usual clientèle, if you know what I mean. The actual concert was held in moderately sized field behind the club. Outside. Also it was pouring when the opening band started. The first band that played was Phantom Planet. That was an interesting surprise. I never know who the opening bands are until the day of the show, because I am lazy and don't do any research I don't have to. But Phantom Planet was neat. Probably my favorite of the openers. Next up was The Hush Sound. I didn't know much about them other than they have a female frontman who
vange has a big gay crush on and who actually turned out to be a co-frontman. They were pretty good though. I feel like I would have enjoyed them even more if I had heard some of their songs. They were definitely good enough for me to look more into though. After that, it turned out Motion City Soundtrack was the third band playing. None of us really cared about them so we went back in the club and I ordered Appletinis while waiting for the rain to stop, which it eventually did. Afterwards, I made my way to the merch booth to buy a Panic shirt, really more for the convenience of having a dry shirt. It was a nice shirt though. I still liked it after I sobered up. And it's yellow. I don't wear a lot of yellow. We pushed our way through the crowd at the end of Motion City Soundtrack's set, with me leading the way because I'm tall. I think I wrangled us a pretty sweet spot, except there were these two myspace whores in front of me who were identically dressed, wearing these stupid hats (which were actually nice, but became stupid after being worn by girls I hate) and they kept using their razrs to record every bit of the show with all the fervor of famous British documentarian Michael Wood. I'm sure those sound clips are going to turn out great, girls. Determined not to have a bad time because of idiots, I moved several feet to the left.
Panic was awesome. They're much better performers now than they were last time around, though their show itself has discarded a lot of the glitz. Last time I saw them I was amazed by all the ridiculous things happening around them on stage (contortionists, people on stilts, etc..) and this time I was amazed by the band itself. I suppose it balanced out. They were terribly endearing. They didn't play as much of their new stuff as I might have liked though. Still, they played their best stuff and it was lots of fun. Also, I think Brendon Urie controls the weather. Right before this one song he said that it usually made it rain when they performed it. The song turned out to be I Write Sins, Not Tragedies, which was ironic because half the song on their new album are actually about rain in some capacity. Nevertheless, it started raining as soon as the song started.
I sure am paying for it though. I am as behind on my work as ever, and I really could ahve used this weekend to get some things done. I have to NightSTAR tonight. I think I will just be a huge tool and kick everyone out of the office so I can get my shit done. Gah! speaking of which I have to go to class right now.
