I taught two classes today. The session started last weekend, but I'd gotten someone to sub for me because I'd already committed to and made reservations for the Festa event before they asked me to teach. I have a sub next weekend due to another prev. commitment.
The rosters left for me by the Aquatic Director had about 5 kids in each age group. (Most of my classes so far have had similar numbers.) In addition, I was informed that a set of twins were transferring to my class (they'd tried a more advanced no-parents class earlier in the day, but weren't ready to go it alone yet).
I wasn't expecting the numbers that actually showed up.
With each class, I checked off most of the names on my roster before I got in the water. Then more parents and kids kept arriving to the point where I stopped trying to keep track of how many. I just needed to keep the classes moving.
Everything went very well, in each class there were a few shy kids, some a little bit nervous, a couple of high-energy kids. I heard a whimper or two, but no howling--whew! I stopped by the front desk afterwards to get updated rosters. Both classes were at capacity--15 kids, plus parents! (I think classes this size usually get a second teacher/helper. I will ask about this for next time.)
