Seattle Proper and the surrounding areas are enjoying a lovely drought/heatwave of desert proportions. I remember a few years ago when July 4th still meant a good chance of showers, rain, and highs of 70 during a shy sunshine break peering tentitively for an hour or so out from behind a cloud. Summer only reached maturity in August. For all I know I'm in California right now. Even the goth population seems unable to resist going outside and getting a healthy glow.
Anneliese and I ran around Seattle all yesterday, hitting the museums starting early in the morning in order to thwart the usualy throngs of families, turists, summer campers, etc that seem to migrate to museum free day like a large heard of African water buffalo. Lindsey was there with three of the women from the homeless shelter, we said hi but parted ways from the group. I'm so glad she was able to take them to the museum. I was surprised to see how incredibly well-dressed they were, which Lindsey explained was a huge deal for them. One even did her make-up so that she could look her best at such a classy venue. I hope they knew how much respect of art that gesture showed, and that there are others with more than enough that could never be bothered to even show up and patron a place, let alone wear their finest. Some rich kids don't even bother showing up in anything presentable. I'm so glad they were given the chance to go to something like that. I hope it was an amazing experience for them that they cherish.
We wound up losing track of time and didn't arrive home until almost 10:00. The dogs were absolutely stir crazy. Of course, now that we're home for the day, it's too hot for them so they're passed out in the kitchen. I suppose freedom is the ability to do nothing simply because you have the choice.
Dad's playing a huge solo tonight up at Bellingham Music Festival, which I would really love to go to. Unfortunately, it's likely to take us around three hours to get to Bellingham in all the Fourth of July traffic. Also, Larey had been hoping we would come over to look at the pictures from our hike on Wednesday. It makes a girl feel really conflicted. On one hand, I really want to go up to see my mom and dad play, especially if he has a solo. On the other hand, it's probably not a good idea to be out driving anytime this afternoon. Also, Anneliese sort of has a commitment to Larey, but we're not even sure if that'll pan out until tomorrow anyway. We probably won't know until Larey comes back from Snohomish later this afternoon. Either way it's difficult. We're going to try to finish up some other stuff and see what the traffic is like. If it's insane, I will have to forgo hearing my dad play his solo since it's far too dangerous for Anne and I to be on the road during Monroe insanity. She's used to Chicago drivers, all of whom are very good at driving. Seattle drivers are.... well.... unpredictable and often make very poor driving decisions as I've found out. At least we're not the Twin Cities.
Anyway, off to go continue cleaning and such. I'm also hungry for lunch. Om nom nom.
