wow. today was the first time since my (eight months ago) re-entry into the full-time work force, I had a day off that felt like "a day off." Until this recent job change, even on my "off" days, I was still not able to set aside my work. Happily, now that I'm working a shift, where other nurses take over and take care of that job, I actually felt free to pay attention to other things.
I washed three of my throw-rugs, something I've meant to get to for months. They look so much better (clean tufts of cotton have much more depth and are cushy--yay). And did my laundry. And sliced up strawberries, to be ready for shortcake later in the day (used my egg-slicer; works well!). Called my a previous employer (American Red Cross) to find out how to get details on the pension I earned during my 14 years there. Got my eyeglasses adjusted, so the lenses are actually paralles (much easier to read now!). Dropped by Binyons' opticians and ordered "reading glasses" and "computer glasses" in their 2 pairs for $99 deal (hooray!!!). Vacuumed (is that how it's spelled?!) a third of the house. Picked up new batteries for my cordless phones which have decided to be "dead" all the time (turns out, the batteries I had IN the phones had somehow simply gotten unplugged within the phones--both of them!). AND poured a four week supply of daily (twice a day, actually) pills for my aunt (that takes about 45 minutes) and dropped them off (which always includes a bit of visiting). Checked on some details for a few of my Juice Plus customers.
the list actually goes on a bit more, but you get the idea. The lovely thing is, I got so much done. And had some time and some energy left over!
I remember this. It's called, having a day off. -I like it. And I have another one tomorrow! I'm planning to go paint a bit, with my buddy, at the art studio. :-)
