Happy New Year, Sorting Hatters! I come bearing really important news.
As you probably could have guessed from looking at the polls, it's been officially decided that we are in fact going to be moving to Dreamwidth, as well as changing our game style to community-based. Sooo... now comes the actual move! This is going to be interesting.
First off, we're going to be putting the game on hiatus for the next week, in order to give us mods time to get everything all set up over there, and to get everyone migrated. That means please don't post for a little bit! Of course, if we get everything done in less than a week's time, we'll come off hiatus early. You're still welcome to submit applications during the hiatus, although we won't get to them right away. BUT, we're going to be introducing a new (hopefully simpler!) application when we reopen, so you might want to wait for that.
Secondly: we need your dreamwidth accounts. PLEASE PLEASE comment to this post listing your current active accounts in the game and what accounts they correspond to over on DW. Also your personal DW accounts for the player contact list. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT, SO EVERYONE NEEDS TO DO IT.
Here's a form for you to fill out:
Player: | "DREAMWIDTH JOURNAL"
Character 1: | "CHARACTER DREAMWIDTH JOURNAL"
Character 2: | "CHARACTER DREAMWIDTH JOURNAL"
Character 3: | "CHARACTER DREAMWIDTH JOURNAL"
Obviously add more or less character journals as necessary
Once you've commented, go ahead and join the main community, the logs community, the OOC community and the crack community. If you join them before you've commented here we won't know who you are, and we won't let you in, so don't forget to comment!
Our second big announcement is: we have decided to jump the setting of the game to right after Voldemort's attack on infant Harry Potter. IF ANYONE HAS ANY MAJOR OBJECTIONS TO THIS, please let us know. We will take your opinions into account. Otherwise, have some flavor text to get a feel for the new setting:
The Wizarding World has just come out of a ten year war. For the majority of Hogwarts students, it has been such a large part of their lives that the time before Voldemort's reign is no more than a hazy memory, if they can even remember it at all. Many lives have been lost, both wizard and muggle.
Then, last year, late on Halloween night, Voldemort was-- miraculously-- defeated, and by none other than a toddler. The entire wizarding community celebrated that day-- and for several days after. Everyone knew the name of Harry Potter-- the Boy Who Lived.
But two months later, as a new year dawns on the wizarding world, things are not yet completely at ease. There is still the matter of Voldemort's followers, of course-- though many were arrested proceeding Voldemort's defeat, and many others claimed to have been under the imperius curse and made to follow him against there will, there is still tension and distrust within the community, especially from those who lost loved ones in the course of the war. It is still hard to determine where the loyalties of certain players lie, and no one yet feels completely comfortable speaking the name of You-Know-Who aloud.
At Hogwarts, school still carries on, although even here nothing is the same as it was before that fateful Halloween. It's hard to believe that the long, hard-fought war is over just like that, especially at the hands of a little baby. Rumors fly fast and loose about what really happened that Halloween night, but nobody is entirely sure. Dumbledore, as always, maintains a stoic neutrality and an upbeat demeanor, stating that while they may never know how the child Potter was able to stop their powerful enemy, the fact remains that he is now gone, and that that is a fact to be celebrated. In the meanwhile, learning must persist.
Obviously this means that if you had Death Eater activity in your AU background, you can keep that, as well as any dead parents you may have accumulated. We're going to give you free reign here to adjust your AU backgrounds as you see fit/if you choose to: just edit your profile information as necessary, and maybe give it a mention if it's something really big.
We hope everyone is satisfied with these new directions for the game, and again, we always encourage all our players to speak up and make their opinions known! We want everyone to be as happy and have as much fun here as possible.
