Last night Jim's older brother, my hero, Shady Higgins, was hit by an oncoming car that had swerved into his lane.
The kid that hit him was 17, high on Marijuana, and walked away without a scratch.
Shady was flown to shock-trauma and was pronounced dead this morning.
This is a hard hit.
I spent all morning on the phone with Jim, trying to tell him that Shady knew he was loved, and is in a better place.
And he is. He's in a much better place.
Jim questioned God. He can't understand why he was given a second chance and Shady, who's a much better person, wasn't. I told him that maybe God was giving Jim a chance to redeem himself.
Least that's what I think.
I send my prayers to the Higgins family, especially Shady's mother, Faith. She lost her husband, a son, and nearly her second son all within a year.
God rest the souls of Jack and Shady Higgins. Both served their countries, donated their time to others, and loved.
Let them know that they were loved.
