Tonight I was cajoled to go to a fundraiser for the Israe|i Defense Forces related charity. It was a major event in a huge ballroom complete with celebrities and musical guests. I couldn't believe the money that was bandied about so nonchalantly. One man giving a speech said he's donating $1 million as if it was no big deal. Another guy at my table raised his hand and said he's giving $500.000.
They had Israe|i soldiers there too. What surprised me was how non-military they looked. I was chatting with three young female soldiers (yes, i wanted to take them all home with me) and were all so petite. I'm sure they could kick butt, however they didn't look at all the stereotype of soldiers.
The child Welsh singer Shaheen Jafargholi performed and he was followed by The Four Tops. The latter did a medley of all of their hits. Watching them in their coordinated suites, I imagine they didn't look much different than they did in the Motown heyday, even though there's only one surviving original member (the son of another was in the group though). I pretended this was 1967 and that was fun. As for Jafargholi, despite volunteering his performance, it was a smart career move for the unsigned young'un to perform in front of a bunch of filthy rich influential people in Beverly Hills.
