Takes a while this way

When I'm writing, if I pause for pretty much any length of time, I have to go back and read from the beginning before I start up again, in order to get back into the flow and make sure that what I'm about to add fits where I want to put it ( Read more... )

Ddrafts are definitely my friends. my officer hottie kiss drabble? Totally different between draft 1 and 2, and the whole thrust and point of it changed completely between draft 2 and 3. The only fic I've ever posted without any major shifts between drafts was Gum Fight, and well, that fic is just magical somehow. I went from prompt to post in about three hours on that fic. Totally atypical.

That fic IS magical! Hee.

(Is it bad that I half-giggled at "thrust"? *sigh*)

Drafts are so awesome, but I'm such a procrastinator that when I have a challenge deadline I end up waiting till the last minute and don't have time for proper drafts and revisions. :-/

Start at the beginning, stop at the end, and hit "post" without ever looking back?

Uh, NO. *LOL* There's much tedious reading and re-reading and reworking and fretting that I do. But there definitely comes a point where you have to hit "post" and be done with it. Otherwise, you'll go insane.

what I've written tonight is so much better than whatever was going on last night. LOL.

That's totally how it happens, though! I wrangled with that damn drabble all friggin' day yesterday, and then when I sat down tonight and looked at it again, it fell into place, 1-2-3. *shrug* I couldn't even begin to tell you why. Maybe it's biorhythms, I don't know. XD

It varies so much for me. Sometimes what I post is essentially a first draft, and then sometimes it just sucks and I need to spend hours on 200 words. *sigh*

This fic that I am working on is supposed to be a minimum of 750 words, and length is not my forte, so. We'll see...

(I love your icon! So pretty. Did you know I'm slashing Amita with Jo Harvelle from SPN these days? Heh.)

Oh, honey! *pets* I think my process is not quite as disjointed as yours, although I can identify with your style to a certain extent. :-)

Yeah, I guess I read my fic aloud in my head. As it were.

sort of late to the bandwagon, but yeah picking up on a fic later on sometimes can be disjointed for me and I usually have to do a read through to get the voice in my head before I start.

then there are the occacsions where I pick up where I left off and have no problems.

sometimes, I just post it but to be honest more stuff I write I always run by someone if possible so if something doesn't work or whatever it is another pair of eyes...

good luck, I iwll be reading it later when I get home, hopefully you and I can IM and chat sometime this week.

I hate it when I write part of a fic and then add more later and it's totally obvious where that split is, because the flow and tone are interrupted. :-/

I get nervous about posting anything longer than a drabble without showing it to someone first.

Haha, I'm sure it's fine. But send it over to me anytime you like and I'll try to take a look at it.
