I just wanted to go around hugging everybody. It's like on the next day's episode of The Daily Show where Jon Stewart was remarking on how people in New York were making eye contact and smiling. He was afraid someone might ask him over for pie.
It made me feel so good about this nation and the people in it.
Dude. I actually respect McCain for his relatively consistent morality, though it's not the morality I wanted in the presidency. This is awesome. Obama for president, and he's not going to waste a moment.
I felt like McCain lost a lot of who he was in his candidacy, so completely separately from everything else I'm happy that he no longer has to be the spokesperson for the Republican party. I was also worried about what he would do on social policy if he had been elected. I would trust him a fair amount on military matters, but I was very concerned that he'd let the ultra-conservatives dictate on the social issues.
I cannot say how glad I am that Obama is our next president. Although I really don't envy him the mess that he's inheriting in which to do it.
I feel like he'll end up one of the big historical presidents and have his face on a coin in fifty years. Personally, I don't trust either McCain or Obama on war--but pacifists don't get elected. McCain did seem to let other people flavor his campaign, which was a shame for him. He probably would have done better if his own personality had come through.
