Parts 47, 48, and 49 of a cryptogram
So been awhile, ya? I started writing Things I Like at a difficult period in my life. I felt like I was always complaining online so I wrote TIL to force myself to think about good things. I figured it was good for me (changing my frame of reference) and good for whoever was reading this (who wants to read entry after entry of me moping?). This isn't to say that I only write TILs when I'm upset, far from it, but it might factor into why it has been so long since me last one. Incidentally, Rachel's and my first date was just a few days after that last entry.
NPR. Public radio in general, but
NPR in particular. NPR allows nerds to geek out at length on things that they love however way they want to cover them, as long as it's interesting.
Radiolab blends science and music the way Samurai Champloo mixed Japanese swordplay and hip-hop.
Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me covers the news with humor.
On the Media, well, covers the way people cover the news.
One thing you don't hear on NPR is two people shouting at exaggerated versions of each other. There is excitement and debate, but no talking head bs. The hosts tend to rein that.
Oh No They Didn't Political. Imagine taking Michele Norris of All Things Considered out for drinks after a long day and asking her "No really, what do you think about [the issue of the day]?" Or "Who would you rather, Barack or Rahm?"
Welcome to ONTD_P. It's an ONTD community, so it has pop culture and .gifs a-plenty; however, it tempers the silliness and the fun with some actual, substantive discussion. If you're a politics nerd who wants some levity with their discussion, check it out.
