I was asked by my very sweet co-worker on Friday afternoon. The question caught me off-guard. For one, I completely forgot that this weekend was Easter weekend. Totally slipped my mind. For the other, I'm not a Christian; I'm a Unitarian. Thinking of the story of death and rebirth of one man as it fits into a wider mythology and reality (at least I hope the tulips I planted this year will come back), sure. Believing in the story of the son of God sacrificing Himself for all of humanity? Not so much. Asking me what I do for Easter is like asking a Hindi was she does for Yom Kippur.
Though that's not completely accurate. Easter has more cultural influence, at least in the US, than Yom Kippur. And yes, I do have an Easter tradition. Every Easter I listen to the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack. It started senior year of college and I've done it every year since. I got the idea because a group in Syracuse puts on Superstar every year around Easter.
So that's what I did for Easter. Of course, I didn't tell my co-worker. For one, again, it totally slipped my mind so I wasn't thinking about it. For the other, I somehow doubt that that the answer would work so well as elevator talk and I get enough odd looks at work already.
So that took an hour or so of my weekend. What did I do for the rest? A whole lot of nothing. Actually, this weekend looked a lot like any other weekend of mine recently. Ran some errands. Read some comics. Played video games a bit though never as much as I'd like. The only change is Rachel is out of town visiting her family. That made last night the first night in a long time, at least 3 months, that we didn't spend together. It was also my first night alone in the new place. Good times. Fortunately, she is coming home tonight so Symba and I don't have to yowl at the front door together anymore.
i'm as corny as kansas in august,
