Anita Blake
Latest Anita Blake book (Skin Trade) was suprisingly good. Lots of Edward and no Richard. Very few sex scenes. Anita doing her marshall job (though only after wading through macho cop nonsense and a lot of angst). Still some problems with Anita being too powerful for you to really ever worry about bad guys any more but she didn't get crazy new powers so at least there is some hope for that in the future.
