Art: Of Wolf and Man by twisted_slinky [Supernatural, Teen Wolf]

I had the privilege of getting twisted_slinky's wonderful story, Of Wolf and Man, for this year's sncross_bigbang. The story grabbed my attention early in the first chapter and would not let me go. The main monster of the story was intriguing as hell, and my art in no way does it justice. Please, go read!

This is really nice! I love the lighting in particular, how you've got the TW guys caught in headlights or something, with Sam and Dean kinda lurking in the shadows. And your ghostly specter is both terrifying and beautiful. Great job!!

Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun playing with the lighting, even though it meant re-drawing Sam's face THREE TIMES.

LOL, only three times? :D Re-drawing a face multiple times (especially if it's Dean/Jensen, GDI) is kinda the norm in my neck of the arting woods.

. . . and hey, Sam looks GOOD!

Thank you! I'm glad he turned out okay. Version #2 was hilariously awful - I may still have a picture of it on my phone.

Why is it that Jensen is so tricky to draw? I wonder if it's because his features are so regular and so distinctive at the same time. For a good while on this particular painting, he looked far more like Mark Pellegrino than Jensen Ackles.

I think that my pastel technique may count as 'redraw as you go' for most of it, since I can correct on the fly as I'm painting/drawing. The three redraws were complete erasures down to the bare paper, which had me terrified towards the end as I was starting to lose the tooth on the paper. Eek.

By the way, when does your SPN/J2 BB entry go up?

I think you hit on it. Jensen is almost classically handsome / beautiful, but at the same time, his face has wonky bits like the little crook in his nose and I'd swear he's not symmetrical, either. If you straighten his nose, it's not "Jensen." If you concentrate on the wonky bits, it's not "Jensen," either. Fine line is fine, and the sum of his parts equals woe for the artist. :)

. . . or maybe he's just too darn pretty for interpretive artists mere mortals to draw. XDDD

YIKES. I definitely feel your pain. In my case, too many erasures tend to create a tooth on the paper -- and markers don't like teeth. At all. D ( ... )

I can't wait to see your art! I have another BB going live on the 8th, and I'll be cranking away this weekend. Wish me luck!

Anyhow, I uploaded the picture of goony!Sam here. He's partially erased, but you can see how things were starting to go off the rails in a major way.

Good luck with the weekend arting! I'm looking forward to it! \o/

Aww, goony!Sam's not so bad. Quite the interesting expression he's got there. :) And you draw BIG -- oh, I am so jealous!
