Because I can't get it off my mind without having my final say about the whole experience, here's a recap of my last two days:
The TUTS callbacks went well, all things considered. The singing portions went very well, and I was happy to discover that even in the company of professional performers I was very competitive in the singing department (very exciting news for me!). As for the rest, my dancing sucks ass, but I was less worried about that. The acting was the big issue, and, well...let's just say that I lack a bit of experience. So I gave it my best shot, and now it's just a matter of waiting. The waiting is the worst part, of course. It would be far better to audition for several hours with no break but find out immediately afterward whether you get the role or not. But I figure that this time my chances are three times better since I had callbacks for three lead roles. But then there's always the possibility that I get none of them and I end up left in the cold.
At least I can say that I've learned a lot in the past two days - what works at auditions, what doesn't, what the directors are looking for. It's amazing what you pick up while you're watching everyone. It makes me think I need to get out to even more auditions, because I think I learned more doing that than I have in the past couple of months. Well, that's probably an exaggeration, but applying your craft in the real world and seeing how everyone else does it gives you good perspective on exactly where you sit in the pecking order. And what you need to do in order to improve. I've definitely got a long way to go - but right now I feel good about where I am.
Also, I never want to take another ferry trip again.
