19 today! :D
My dad got me an Aperture Laboratories mug. It is an enormous mug and I love it. He also got me a pair of books (Practical Idealists: Changing the World and Getting Paid and Careers in International Relations). And then this morning my sight-singing partner sang me Happy Birthday in the classical style and gave me a handful of apple-blueberry granola.
...Then I did abysmally on my piano midterm, because the sight-reading was a HOWLING BITCH and I had completely forgotten that our study in sixths was going to be on the midterm, so basically I sight-read both of those aaaaaand here's hoping my awesomeness at everything else saved my grade enough that is averages out to a B. |D Deeeeeerp.
This week promises to be good, though! I'm still on the fence on whether or not I'm going to let three strange guys drive me to Washington, D.C. for the Rally To Restore Sanity; thus far I'm thinking um no but we're meeting for dinner tonight, and though I'll probably politely tell them that I can't do it, if they really don't seem like rapists I might consider going still. We shall see.
Last week I couldn't go to taiko because of the opera; Brian sent me an email the next day asking me where on earth I was because I'm still the one person who can play the shime part, and I felt warm and fuzzy and necessary. |D Until our next performance we'll be doing three-hour practices instead of two hours, because Seiha needs to be ready in three weeks so we can play it when we open for OSU's Mongolian drumming group, who are actually fucking amazing and this is a HUGE DEAL and if we fuck up Seiha in front of them we will never be able to hold up our heads in public again etc. I'll be playing in that one. P-possibly solo shime, if we don't get somebody else to play the other part. I'M NOT A BAD DRUMMER BUT I CAN'T PLAY TWO SOLOS BY MYSELF AND I CANNOT PLAY HEMIOLAS WITHOUT AT LEAST TWO MORE HANDS SO HERE'S HOPING SOMEONE ELSE SHOWS UP SOON. Also need to start transcribing the end, which goes into a really bizarre meter and there's triplets everywhere and a swung meter and GIANT-ASS SHIME SOLO AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.
Then the rest of the week I will be frantically practicing my new quartet music (which is a strange atonal piece of what in five-four time and also so far up the A-string I have trouble reaching it), the double-stops in the children's book my teacher so patronizingly gave me to practice (I'm playing "Polly-Wolly Doodle," "Danny Boy," and probably something like "When the Saints Go Marching in." Wheeeeeeeeee), the new symphony music (MUST. BE. BETTER. THAN. STAND PARTNER), and of course the concerto whose suck prompted the assignment of the children's book, and that fucking etude, and D-flat major scales. I could easily practice three hours a day right now. Easily.
But! Friday I'm going to a gigantic Diwali celebration if I don't go to Washington! And I'm applying for an internship in the OK legislature next semester! And all my enrollment is done! So all in all everything is good. I have so much to look forward to. And it's my birthday. I'm so happy. :D
