I'm not doing a good job of updating this like I promised to. Let me just jot down a few of my thoughts at the moment.
I've been a bit down over the past couple of weeks for some reason. Just not wanting to socialize, not wanting to go to the gym or jog, just wanting to go to work (and keep to myself there), go home, get lost in a book or video game, and generally escape. Maybe I need a vacation or something. Luckily, I do have a trip next week to Palawan, so I'm looking forward to getting some sun on the beach. Maybe I'll come back energized and ready to go. Also just finished planning out my trip home for the summer. Got my plane tickets and everything. Really looking forward to that.
So that's pretty much where I've been lately. Here are the worlds I've been escaping into and my thoughts on them briefly:
Books:
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: Long and interesting mystery novel that took a little while to get going, but then set a good pace with believable characters and good little crime to solve. About as well done as it could have been. After contemplating taking a break from this (very Swedish) world and into another, I decided to double down and start on the even-longer sequel, The Girl Who Played with Fire.
The Strain: Great vampire book with a subtly different take on the creatures. The characters are a bit run-of-the-mill, but I enjoyed the story. I'll read the sequel when it comes out later this year, assuming the price is right. On a side note, I think I'm going to refuse to read any ebook over $9.99 from now on. That's the price I'm willing to pay, and if they start trying to raise the price, well, there are plenty of other older, cheaper, better books out there to read until they come to their senses.
Lost: The premiere was excellent. I won't bother you with my full thoughts. I've got a note about it on Facebook, so you're welcome to go and read it there, and chime in with ideas that you have or read somewhere. I'm happy to hear all theories.
Dragon Age: Origins: What a great RPG. I think this will be the first game I actually finish in the past several years. Classic Bioware stuff, with great characters, voice acting, and stories. There isn't much bad I can say about it. I just hope I can finish it up before I get Mass Effect 2, which I ordered last week.
iPad: I've been thinking about this. I can see myself really enjoying one a few years down the road. It would be a great thing for me to use while lounging on the couch or resting in bed. I don't think I'd really take it with me when I go out, except for vacations, but just to have something for web surfing, emailing, casual gaming, and watching videos at home, I think it'd be great. But I'll promise myself not to pick one up until I move back to America. Surely the next generation or two will be much improved anyway. Or if not, it'll be enough time to read about the problems with the device to know that I really don't need one. Either way, I won't make a decision for at least a year and a half.
Well, guess that about covers it for now.
