[Sirius wasn't able to turn away until Remus finally climbed back in the window to the dormitory. He was frozen there, wondering what had just happened. It-- did they?-- it couldn't end like this. Not here. Not like this.]

[The next thing he knows, his bike is roaring to life and he's leaving the Academy, riding through town, and then riding

[James comes in from school, he's spent the full day there. He sprawls beside Sirius and waits for him to wake up so he can give him a hug]

[Sirius stirs, turning slightly to bury his face further into the warmth of pillow and doesn't wake for another fifteen minutes. His breathing changes and it's obvious he's awake now, but he refuses to lift his head. It's easier to just lay here like this. And he doesn't want to talk to James about any of this, and he knows his best friend is sitting right next to him waiting.]

[James leans over and strokes his hair, he's going to wait for Sirius to be ready to work]

[sonofthestars]

[Sirius tenses and a violent shudder runs through his body at the touch. Tears spring to his eyes because Remus was the last person to touch his hair, but he will not cry. He won't.]

[prongs_jamesp]

Pads [James voice is soft] gonna tell me what happened?

[sonofthestars]

[Sirius suppresses a sigh and mumbles against the pillow,] You've already talked to Remus and know what happened. [He doesn't want to talk about it.]

[prongs_jamesp]

Doesn't mean I don't want to hear it from you, and bring you good things so you've got something to cheer you up a bit

[sonofthestars]

Don't need cheering up, James. [Sirius is still mumbling into the pillow.] Need sleep.

You need both

[Sirius wants to tell him to go away, but James is his best friend... he can't be pushing him away now too. With a sigh he hugs the pillow tighter to his front.]

[prongs_jamesp]

Why don't you use me as a pillow?

[sonofthestars]

[Because he might squeeze James to death.]

[He makes a sound of unhappy agreement and moves to make space for James to lay down if he wants. He doesn't loosen his hold on the pillow, though.]

[prongs_jamesp]

[James takes the invitation and locks an arm around him] there that';s better

[sonofthestars]

[Sirius keeps the pillow between them and doesn't wrap his own arms around James because they're still tight around the pillow. He makes a mumbled grunt that sounds something like "If you say so."]

You really should have a teddy rather than a pillow

[sonofthestars]

'M fine. [Padfoot's teddy bear is chewed on and slobbered all over. Not exactly something he wants to cuddle while human.]
